Getting them Sober

There used to be a book on here that was a "sticky" at the top of the page. I think it was called "Getting them Sober" does anyone know anything about that? Thanks in advance.

Tom, Canadian Guy had a supply of them and was willing to provide them to anyone who could not afford to buy one.   His stock ran out however they are available in book stores.

has anyone used the ideas in the book with success? My son has relapsed within months and I'm not convinced he'll stick with the community based treatment he's just started. Life has been horrendous and we are dreading xmas as his ex has said (rightly) he can't see the child. He's been planning suicide.

To be frank - no. It was beneficial information - I bought them all, but in the end it really is the Al-Anon program, my sponsor and MIP that helped me through hard times with my son.

I did not really resonate so much with the books, yet I know they have been helpful to many.

I found the books very informative and helpful in gaining a better understanding of the dynamic. It also provided a sense of comfort because it served as reassurance that I wasn't alone and that what we were both going through was all part of something identifiable. If I glean one thing from anything- book, meeting, etc, then I consider it worth it. It was and still is my working the 12 steps, traditions, and leaning into Alanon that has improved my situation.

The books gave me my foundation and taught me a lot. I suggest them to anyone dealing with alcoholism. Al-anon meetings, my sponsor, MIP and reading keeps me growing forward in my program.

I find these books to be a wealth of no nonsense alanon black belt information. There's a lot that people don't want to read because it is fairly blunt about sensitive issues. I had to revisit them to get a better understanding of what I wanted to gain out of them. Once I opened my mind and allowed myself to not take the information personally I have gotten a tremendous amount of comfort from them.

The entire series has helped me immensely and I like that they aren't just Al-anon centered so much, but work in conjunction with a twelve step progam and that they have a book on the part about what happens when they actually get sober and handling all that stuff, which for me is really hard. I read mine every day and I do use some of the nuggets of information to help me each day.
