Celebrating/and Paying it Forward

I was doing a little reflecting this morning. This month is my six months anniversary with Al-Anon. Lately I have been taking some service responsibilities (chaired our meetings for a month and I'm going around to doctor's office placing Al-Anon literature) and I feel good about myself. While putting out the Al-Anon leaflets and literature, I pray someone like me will pick it up, read it and reach out for help. I'm doing my best to "pay it forward."

Six months ago, I would never have thought the serenity I have found was possible. Alcoholism moved in on me slowly, pulling me down inch by inch. For years I treaded water and continued what I was doing until finally I found myself almost going under. When I could not longer tread water, no longer stay afloat, and was ready to give up, God let me to Al-Anon. With the help of my HP, Al-Anon has been my life preserver. I am so thankful.

So I want to take the time to thank the hundreds of nameless people who reach out every day to help those of us affected by someone's drinking. With your sponsorships, phone calls, meetings, working discussion boards such as MIP, or whatever you do to help others, THANK YOU!!

Celebrating 6 months with Al-Anon!

It works if you work it.

Gratitude seems to be a part of your makeup...from my experience, those with this awareness of gratitude move along more quickly in their recovery.  i know my life feels fuller when I am in gratitude and I pay it forward, as you have done in your post...thank you.

cloudyskies

I love service it helped me to settle in al anon and to gain a sense of belonging in the beginning,

Since then it has helped me to grow in so many other ways.  For example I used to be very controlling now I can work better as part of a team and listen to others ideas and guess what sometimes they are better than mine ha ha.

keep up the good work, al anon saved my sanity I love paying it back for my many gifts I have been given.

Happy 6 months birthday.

hugs tracy xxxxx

Loved this thread and I love the vision of you going in and out of doctors' offices taking in a medicine that one can't buy but can accept for free.

I so agree with Paula....and ya know??? the more you give back to this program, the more you get....its like cause and affect......being grateful and being in service are two huge things and when you get to the mode where you want to pay it forward it means you are growing...

I remember when i first got into recovery...i was hemorrhaging in my spirit...I had nothing to give at first...My pain was that bad, but the others in the group understood and they took me under their wings...I am friends with some of them to this day and now I can give to them and it feels good....the others???? I took and took and i don't even remember if i thanked those people, but when i started feeling better, like you, i wanted to "give something back" and i , too, began to chair meets, or be a greeter or help a mate in need with an issue, ANYthing...being on here, hanging out and esh'ing the newbies and oldies and inbetweeners,  basically now, i just go where i am "prompted" to go ......Good on you...

(((((YAY))))) Cloudy Skies...And Mahalo for being here and there for others also.  Congratulations on 6 huge months and for hanging in there with us, for us helping us get also what you have been looking for!!.

I celebrate with you and your willingness to grow and share that growth with others.  I also found service to be a huge part of commitment to recovery.  PI (public information) ?  I still do that time to time...passing it on and giving others not yet met, an opportunity to touch and have what you and the rest of us have.

You go girl!!  ((((in support))))   ((((Hugs))))....of course.

I love celebrations...thanks for the invite.   lol  wink

smileBe sure to include you in the group of people who carry the message, Cloudyskies.  (PS:  We'll just do a clown version of appreciate applause until your headaches are finished.)  Left arm and gloved hand up.  Right arm and gloved hand up.   Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle.
