Learning how to let Go and let God

Well it's taken me months of alanon training but I think I am understanding some of the craziness that developed from my A.  I wanted her to get better (she has multiple addictions) for ME!  To make MY life and MY marriage better.  And what I finally get is that I am the only one who can make my life better.  She cannot restore me to sanity.  She may never get better.  So far she hasn't.  But I still feel better and can imagine feeling even calmer and more sane, no matter what she does.  So this is letting go and letting God.  I tried to help her for 20 years with no results except I kept getting sicker.  Only alanon has shown me the path to take.  I have gratitude.  Lyne

Thank you for the shared insights and testimony to letting go of focusing on her and opting to focus your attention on the most important person in your today's share.

Thanks for sharing this, Lyne. I too used to think if A would stop, my life would go back to normal and all would be well with the world.

Instead, now I see his drinking isn't my problem but I do have other problems that I can work on so for that, I'm grateful.

Good on you Lynne and thanks for helping me today to remember that I need to keep the focus on me if I am going to move forward positively.

Lyne, your story is my story a few months ago. I remember so many times repeating that slogan, and still I would try to reign in my control over my ah. Letting go and Letting God has been a struggle for me, but slowly it is beginning to sink in. I am so happy you are in Al-Anon. Stay with it and keep on working it because...

If works if you work it! smile
