The mess left behind


It seems like every day there is something to clean up, as in first it was the house, I like neat and clean but I got behind from the depression I was in.So my daughter and I have been tackling the house.Yesterday there were errands and financial situations I am working on.My poor pets need to go get flea medicine,my car needs fixed and today there is tons of laundry.I am feeling the strain and today I am very tired but I am hoping it will get less chaotic and yes sometimes when I am working on things I feel a tinge of resentment because I did everything when A was here anyway.He was a binge drinker so when he was home it wasn't pleasant.I guess I am just feeling overwhelmed.

Just keep taking the next best step and you will get there. I had to learn to not beat myself down for all the work I needed to get done, but take time to appreciate me and practice self care so I had the energy to get done what I wanted to get done. I am glad you are here and sharing with us. I here your awareness growing and your growth. Keep coming back and dive into your recovery, it works when you work it! mjferg, I too let my house get cluttered up along with the dysfunction in my marriage. I watched an episode of 'How Clean Is Your House', and the couple's bedroom was piled high with crap and literally garage because they would eat in bed and just toss the paper plates on the floor. Anyway, the cleaning ladies asked the couple if their relationship was good because by the looks of the bedroom, there wasn't any lovin' happening in there. The couple admitted that no, they hadn't been intimate in a long time. My and my A bedroom looks like a store room. Granted, I have limited closet space but still...I don't care what the bedroom looks like because I don't entertain in there in any sense of the word. I used to care. I used to keep my house very organized but slowly as my marriage disintegrated so did the organization of my home.

However, things are looking up these days. I've been sorting and purging and it's making me feel good about myself again to get the clutter out of here.

I too let things clutter when I couldn't face it. I'm apologizing in advance for how shallow this is going to be, but this is what helped me.
I made a list of the tasks to be done. They were low-level tasks, not like clean the house but more like make the bed. Each had its own line.
When I completed it, I lined it through in a bright color.
I could see my progress, and it showed me this I can do.
You can do it. Nothing needs to be perfect.

Hi

when i have gone on "sabatical" from life, due to a depression, or i get physically ill, or "life" gets in the way, and i have a "pile up"  i just make a mental list.....ok...whats top priority?? then next and next......like Betty said..one day at a time..one task at a time....

i break it up in chunks so it does not seem to be so bad.....IN SUPPORT
