Good bye to an old friend

I told you guys in my "helloooo alanons" post about my neighbor being "zonked" by a tree the size of godzilla, branch broke off, dove through his roof and "parked itself" in his living room.....WHAT a mess and HP was watching over his mom b/c the place that tree landed was her computer desk....she would have been killed for sure...

Well today, the tree folks came out w/ BIG trucks, saws in varyinng sizes, ropes, apparatus with which to get up the tree and "hang there" while the guy sawed, and also extra ropes to do this job...

it was massive....that tree was over 200' tall....proud....defiant, but this last storm broke off one of his biggest "arms" and that was the coup de gras on my friend's house and a death sentence for that aged tree, who god only knows is how old...

I would walk at night up to that tree and lean against it and shed a tear or too as needed as i felt its ancient and never failing strenght....it exuded good energy,  and as a native american, i loved sitting with my back to its massive trunk, lord only knows how many dogs in its lifetime used it as a restroom, lord knows how many generations of squirrels adn birds that tree saw and I would lean my back against its rough, aged trunk and I would let out my emotions.....noone saw me...just the big ole tree

today the crews began about 10 am, they started removing the last of the branch that pierced my friends roof, and the guy who was the "climber" had a rope around his waist and he was quite adept at maneuvering himself around that tree as he cut off the first level branches and the ropes around them would prevent them from doing anything but "float" softly to the ground...then he would move up the base of the tree, removing more branches...some huge, some not so huge and smaller, end branches....finally he gets to the top and I am watching this whole operation and he gets tot he top and there is nothing but the tree's great middle...getting thinner as the guy climbed higher and he began at the very top, sawing, and yard by yard, that big ole tree was nothing but a huge stump on the ground...about waist high for me....BIG, wide stump.....the final end came when they got this great big saw and they but into it and "leveled" it with the grass almost

I was sad to see it go....nature again giving way to man's "supremacy" on mother earth.....my friend who was "host" to one of its biggest branches said he was sad too....an icon is no longer up that street...how many times did my friend join me for a late summer nite beer , backs against the massive trunk, talking and chatting...just enjoying the seasons ...

I took pics of the tree b4 and after....i took two large pieces of it and took them home to put in front of my shrubs that face my front windows, sort of as a memorial to a grand old friend who is now gone....

Yes, it had become a hazzard...battered by how many storms, the old tree's larger branches began to "lean" towards my friend's and his neighbor's houses....it was a disaster waiting to happen ...AGAIN!!!!

I feel a sense of sadness...I love nature, the trees, flowers, shrubs, wild life and it seems kinda sad that the fauna and flora give way more and more to man and the flora and fauna don't do the ugly things that man does......Sad but it is what it is....I cannot change it.....My dream has always been to live in the country, but I must be near work, so I try to bring nature and country to me by the way i decorate my home, my indoor plants, my pets, and my meditations.....now with this SUV so comfortable to drive, I may just get on the highway going east down I30 and just go visit my beloved country.......i wont' have to drive too far, there are still some lovely places where one can go and just BE......

so good bye old tree.....When i need to shed a tear or two or just meditate and soak up natures good energy or just go back to my ancestral feelings of being one with nature, I'll have to find another tree to make friends with.........I am happy that my friend is no longer in danger  of another storm blowing more of the tree in his house......I take comfort that the children who live next door are safe from a hazzard, but nevertheless sad to see another of earth's creations have to go and make room for man.....

Thank you for letting me share this..........

I understand your respect and gratitude for that old, beautiful tree. I had a huge silver maple removed from my yard. I couldn't get over what a difference that tree no longer standing outside my garage access door made for me. I don't want to get too woowoo about this and the truth is that for two years after we removed it, I could still sense the stillness of its majestic presence. It, too, became a friend for me as the neighbor's tree did for you.

I love the share N...almost how I see my "pictures" also.  Have been going thru some of this myself at "work"  cutting up and old gent giant which was felled by age and wet rot.  Much of it laying within the ginger like a tall old man resting in the garden.  Thanks for your Metaphor and the real picture.   ((((hugs)))) smile

I grabbed my dolly and got a BIG piece of my tree "buddy" to put over my sewer pipes that are covered but some fool could still unscrew the covers and toss dirt down them or something, so i took a piece of Mr. Tree and I put it over those covers.....even in death , that old tree has a job to do....looking after my drainage things....

saw my neighbor fixing his saw and i looked at the huge nearly flat bottom of the old tree, nearly level with the grass.....My oh my his place looked different w/out the branches giving shade and it looked so "open" like....branches and limbs all over his and neighbor's sidewalks and that is AFTER the fire place owners took their firewood home.....Mr. Tree is being recycled...I got a part of him in front of my house....Life begins and it ends...Nothing stays the same...not animate things or inanimate things...It behooves me never to get too attached to earthly things....To be always willing and prepared to "let go" when the time comes......Another lesson on this...That mighty tree, standing rigid and tall was felled by a storm b/c he didn't want to bend with the winds....He didn't want to yield some so the winds which would have gone over him, just plowed through him and took him out......I have these puny little young baby shrubs who will endure...during the winds, they were bent over, letting the wind go over them...my neighbor looked out his window and saw them all bending...I need to "bend" more....progress, never perfection......Just saying

Here is a pic of the "aftermath"  you see neighbors tarp on roof, covering the hole an poor Mr. Tree's body parts , as neatly as possible, spread on the sidewalk to the right, a bit....behind that is the great big "bottom" of him, level with the grass.....
