Hi all - I've posted on here before about an extremely unhealthy relationship I had with my ex who is an alcoholic. I did everything for him and he was still a sack of s*** (cheating, lies, whatever).
Anyway, we broke up a while ago. He text me this morning about coming to see office space I had offered him before for his business. I set up a meeting for him to view then he didnt show up.
I jumped up when I saw his text and got ready. Just like I would do in the relationship. Then he bailed.
And now I can't stop crying. WHY do I still care about a man who literally has cost me my integrity, friends and family?

(((Forgiveness))) I don't know why you do still care about him. I don't think caring about another person is a bad thing. I do think putting ourselves first takes time and it takes help in Al-Anon and with our sponsor to change our priorities. I'd put God first, others second and myself third. Learning to put God first, then myself and then others was new and took and takes a lot of practice to make progress. The good news is that you are a caring person and there truly is hope for you to learn how to take good care of yourself in relation to the ways we've been affected by this disease and all others.
I'd like to suggest that you put a gratitude and assets list together today? Maybe three things each and see if that might help you feel a little better today?

I am so sorry that you are so upset Please know that by living with the disease of alcoholism we are changed by trying to force solutions and focusing all our energy on others. We need a program of recovery just as the alcoholic does.
AA is the program for the alcoholic and al anon is the program for those who have lived and loved an alcoholic . I urge you to search out al anon face to face meetings and attend In addition please keep coming back there is hope.
