General Question About Al-Anon

When I'm at an Al-Anon Adult Child meeting,

am I allowed to mention smoking or over-eating as a symptom of my adult child issues?

If you have an answer would you please back it up with literature if possible?

I haven't done this, but in would like to know the truth so I don't break Traditions.

Well I researched some, this may help??

I liked this article too. I would say of course they have to do with being acoa! But I am fortunate to not have experienced it at all or even with friends.

I know my ex AH is acoa big time. His siblings and he experienced about every addiction possible. I mean it in our dna so it makes sense that any addiction would be exacerbated by being acoa.

hugs, great question!

I don't think there would be any specific rule against it. Probably more like unwritten....The food part, people might suggest you go to an OA meeting if it is the dominating part of your shares. There is a guy at my meetings that shares about HIV all the time (he seems to have some kind of dementia or psychotic disorder too) but he has been interrupted before and told that he's not sharing on topic and it's not an HIV support group.

Similarly, as long as it's not done to the point where you are high-jacking the meeting and making it into an OA meeting or Smoking Cessation meeting...it's probably ok. Sorry I can't think of literature to back up my views.

WTI I would post this to the Adult Child Board. I know at my alanon meetings we do not censor what is shared. Many members share on sexual abuse as children and sexual addiction without being interrupted. No cross talk means just that .I believe each meeting is autonomous
