Is anyone on our board from San Francisco or have family members or friends there? There appears to be some really scary stuff going on according to my internet update. Lots of prayers and positive thoughts being sent their way.
I called a group of nuns I stayed with in San Francisco to check on them. Although that area was rattled a bit - no damage. A couple of counties over from San Francisco City as demonstrated on the map. No aftershocks in San Francisco or the bay area reported yet. Regardless, lots of damage and I'm sure very stressed people. Glad that the Arizona area is getting more rain, Cathy, but no more flooding that I know about.
I know someone in the Sacramento area and they got hit a little rattled things are ok. It depends on where you are .. I remember watching the game in 1989 and seeing the cameras go off and hearing about the bridge collapsing .. it was awful. My grandma was living in the Oakland area and it did damage out there as well .. that bridge collapsing was HUGE. I think they got lucky and there really wasn't a lot of damage like the last time.
Hugs S :)

Oh no .. she passed away the summer of 2011 .. I remember visiting after the earthquake of 1989 and seeing the damage at her house. It was a rocker to do damage in Oakland. My friend said nothing about power or damage in her area. Sacramento is further out too.

It must have been a terrible experience for her to go through? I've only been to areas hit by tropical storms to help with clean up and aftermath stuff. I can't imagine what damage an earthquake can do. I also am leery of what kind of water issues they might be hit with now following the earthquake. I haven't seen anything about the possibilities for that? Did your friend know anything about any possible water issues following this earthquake?
I haven't heard anything about water issues .. honestly I'm not a big news watcher since it all gets blown out of proportion. No one I know had mentioned much about it.

I lived though the Northridge and Whittier quakes. What a mess. The Whittier quake was close to where I worked. I was at work when it hit and it took all the ceiling tiles down and I was under the desk toot quick. Went out to the plant and a row of 5 warehouse shelves 4 high tipped over and all the inventory went everywhere. It happened to the nuts and bolt shelves so you can imagine how long it took to sort it all out..lol Got home that night and my fence around the house had crumpled. Not much damage inside but a few cracks.
We might get some rain tomorrow...I hope so.

Thanks for the feedback, S&C. I guess no news about water issues is good news (and yes, I do know this is very, very trite.)
C: I love that you were able to get under your desk toot quick. Did you take French in high school? I can't remember the spelling of the words toot suite but I know they mean very quickly. That was a wonder that there was no real damage to the foundation or walls of your home after an earthquake.
