AA and Al-Anon Convention this Weekend.

Hi Everyone! So I ended up going to the convention and had a wonderful time. Got my cup full of great speakers and E/S/H. Amazingly enough because once again I decided to adjust my attitude and my mouth it went well with my AH. We talked and laughed and cried together. There was no pettiness, arguing nothing.

I talked with him today and he said last night at his Cares and Concerns meeting, the guys in the house told him they had a much better understanding of things because I was able to tell them what Al-Anon was like and also they heard the awesome Al-Anon speakers, along with every AA speaker thanking those in Al-Anon. They now said they understood our group is not about getting together and bashing them and all the bad things they have done or continue to do, or may do if they use again. I feel blessed today.

We had a situation come up with my AH's cousin that is very sick with the disease. He almost lost his life 8 years ago to the disease and was sober for 5 years. He is back at it even worse than before. Somehow, someway when he was fired from his job last Wednesday, through a series of phone calls, someone was able to get a hold of me and tell me what was going on. I had to stop and think on what to do. I called a good friend of mine in AA, who has known my AH and his family for his entire life. The man jumped into action, and immediately began 12 stepping the cousin. We got him to the meeting with us on Thursday night, although he was incredibly drunk, so many men saw his suffering and approached him, encouraged him and offered suggestions. We got him there again on Friday night, this time he was a little more sober, Saturday he was able to hang with us all day at the convention. He kept telling us he can do this on his own and didn't need any treatment or detox. His daughter came over on Saturday afternoon and we all helped her when she told him she was scared and afraid and couldn't take it if he died or got so badly sick again. She reminded him that just about a year ago, she tried to commit suicide because of all his issues.

I do believe he went to the VA to seek treatment today. I feel so blessed from this entire weekend of all these mini-miracles. I have such a great sense of gratitude to all the programs, they are so profoundly encouraging and reflect on what living a good life is really all about.

Thank you everyone.

For the last few years I have been going to a joint AlAnon/AA retreat. There are probably 2/3 AA members and 1/3 AlAnon members...... lots of them are married couples. I learn a lot from the AA'ers and they have told us AlAnons that they learn so much from us.... that we don't sit around and bash on them at our meetings. There is so much misinformation between the groups (big sigh).

I'm glad you had the same feeling as I had.
