It is what it is

Where to start? My mom has bladder cancer, just diagnosed, not even sure the path they are going to want her to take. My cat died, she was 12 years old and I find myself arguing with someone who says, she wasnt that old.. why am I even trying with those type of people? Cats live as long as they live eh?

And my dog got into a fight with a raccoon THAT was not fun! 3 am I hear the ruckus and suddenly she starts yelping, I trip over a box in the bedroom to get out the door, go outside turning on the porch light, there is my dog yelping and looking like she is in a battle with another dog I truly thought it was a bull dog of sorts and my mind flashes to the bulldogs way of fighting holding on until the opponent succumbs. I picked up a huge two part brick and threw it down on the tail end of the dog and suddenly I saw it WASNT a dog, yikes, raccoons are SO scary when they are fighting! she let go of dog, ran left and right until she found a way out, I turned and saw younger raccoon still on my porch maybe it was a mama protecting its child?

Betsy has a big hole in her foreleg and I am just hoping for the best. I will take her to a vet come Monday if she isnt better but man what a traumatic event it was. Absolutely horrible to hear such a sound as your pet in pain and the adrenaline and fear rampaging through you as you chase the offending parties away and turn to face the realities I have to clean up the wound, hold pressure on it until it stops bleeding man it was coming out fast! But pressure works and the bleeding stopped, doused it with peroxide and bandaged it up, using duct tape to stop the dog from tearing off the bandage. Then I got to face the mess blood all over the rug and it isnt a dark colored rug thank God I have a rug shampooer, cold water helps and I work to remove the stain, remember it is now about 4 am. Blood spots almost gone, time for peroxide on them, and then some soapy water, more shampooer and finally I can put the machines to rest. Next problem, what to do to keep dog from tearing at the bandage? So I spent the rest of the night on the couch so I could hear the dog was going.
Shes limping today; I cleaned the wound again and shaved a lot of hair away to get a better look, shes eating and I thank HP that she wasnt more hurt.

My mom still has cancer she will fight it, Im sure, there will be chemo, maybe radiation, possibly bladder removal, she is hopeful. We had a good 12 years with the cat cant really complain, she was a neat personality that I will miss I loved that my animals would all hang out when I was working in the yard.

It is what it is and we will get through it; I hope we get through it with grace and dignity, humor and love.

geez that is so much stress! What are you doing to anti stress?

Ok, cat, must have had a good life to have 12 years with you. Of course they are like any living thing, they die when they do.

Dog, we don't use peroxide after the first initial flushing of the wound. It breaks down any new delicate tissue beginning to heal. Use ten parts lukewarm water to one betadine.  flush would twice a day. I use Bactrim to keep infection away twice a day for ten days.

If you can soak the wound that is super. leave open. If scab forms debie it off to pink skin. if it bleeds some that is ok. the goal is tokeep it dry.

I took care of a dog who's whole front chest was almost tore off from racoons. Blue lived and healed great.

yes peroxide does break down blood. I clean everything with peroxide/baking soda/liguid soap.

Very sad to hear about your Mom. I still remember when my Mother told me she had b cancer. ugh. I hope if she chooses treatment she will feel ok and react to it mildly or not at all.

Sending you lots of love dear one.
