to keep it which I learned was about holding on to the program and my recovery and this is true...for me a fact. And then whats my point? avocados!! really??!! Really...A couple of years ago I planted a avocado seed which I got from a neighbors tree. My friends who know and know that they know so much about agriculture told me that the tree would never bear fruit and that I should have gotten a graft...Keep coming back you smarty's and change your answer to the question "Could I be Wrong"!! cause you are.
HP gifted me with a tree that is so incredibly bountiful that mostly what I have been doing with it is feeding Hilo and the needy. I've gotten so many hundreds of pounds from it and I am so not into throwing edibles away when there are hungry people all of the streets now a days that I've stopped telling my HP Mahalo for the fruit and have started asking "tell me where you want this load to go".
I use to have trouble doing gratitude lists because I thought I should only be grateful for getting what I wanted until I learned about getting what "we" could need and use and I haven't met a person yet from anywhere from any charitable organization who didn't want these fruits. I have met many people because of this and seen many smiles while hearing so many Mahalo's or "thank yous".
Give it away in order to keep it...hmmmm ...I have so many stuffed inside of the freezer and refrigerator I don't need to keep anymore. "You'll be keeping the tree" HP says so next season when you're completely out we can do this again. "I think...just for today" and go to my morning meeting.
This morning in my meeting I hear a member share about how very much she has learned and received from what was given to her over her journey and how much she has received goes beyond what she just wanted. Her needs are being fulfilled.
Maybe this avocado tree is another metaphor? See how my HP works? Lets see what else comes up as a gratitude.
((((Thanks for the lessons and clearer vision MIP family))))
What a treat on so many levels Jerry - I had no idea that avocados were so productive. And I din't know that they could go in the freezer either.
We have lots of cherry, hazel and walnut trees growing wild near us and it is a joy to see folks coming by in the autumn to collect the nuts. In fact I tend to measure the seasons by wild foods these days - this month the plum and elder trees are fruiting. Next month it will be brambles!
Hi Jerry, I too love avocados and was touched deeply by your share. This is a fantastic example of trusting the process and taking the action and letting go of the results.
What a gift you are to your community. I am so glad that the tree and you are bearing" much fruit". I was reminded of a recent example of placing a small amount of leaven in the doughwhile cooking. It expands and changes the entire composition of the the dough.
We honestly do not know what wonders HP will do the small kind actions that we take.
Thanks for sharing such a wonderful example of the program in action. I felt a lot of serenity while picturing the smiles, the gratitude and the promise of more next year. I can almost hear you saying "keep coming back!" Yep, love avocados

There is true happiness to be found in giving freely to others with no expectations - except maybe the smiles we get in return. I miss avocados - can't eat them, they mess with my stomach. I have a grape vine that does the same thing, produces way more grapes that I can ever eat so I send em off to Potlatch every year.

Potlatch here is a community lunch, every Wednesday at one of the churches. They get donations from a lot of different places to put on the once a week lunch and deliver it to shut ins, I think they charge a small fee for the meal, the old folks like it, they get together and tell each other what they heard.

I love this post and yes, I love to freely give it away with no expectations. I have become so much more loving and empathetic since finding al-anon and I just love the changes in me and my relationships, because of this program.
