Just want to share this before I go to sleep. I was thinking about alcoholism, and the battles we go through being friends, family, and partners of addicts. We lose the battle in our minds first before we lose it to something or someone else first. If we have made up our mind about something, then no matter what someone does to us we can't lose that battle b/c our mind has been set not to react or melt down. Honestly, this applies to life in general. I see that as I move forward from my past relationship with an A. When I try to accomplish something new, form good habits, or just change old patterns and not let his behavior get to me, the battle is first with my mind. Not external things. anyway, food for thought i guess! goodnight all.x

Great observation Giraffe I agree and truly believe that this is a "Thinking disease, and that the alanon program is an "inside job". That is why working the Steps particularly Step 3 (turning our will over ) is so important.
i agree. when I started learning how we can choose how to react or not, this is when i brought humor into it. Also when he was being a turkey, I would walk up to him and hug him.
He was thrown off balance a lot by this stuff and it changed things for the better.
It was neat how my little noggin would think something that I liked and would come out my mouth.... hugs.
