Thank-you Kenny Fenderjazz!!

Well, my second attempt at the driving test is next week and the nerves are building again.

So today, I took my daughter to get her ears pierced again (she wanted her nose pierced, as if, we settled for a second set of earings). On the way I admitted to her that i have always wanted to get my nose pierced but, even though I have an eye-brow ring and something like 752 earing-holes, the nose scares me. I'm absolutely sure it's going to really, really hurt.

She begged me to get it done. (The logic being, I assume, that if I have mine done, it's going to be a short jump to me letting her have hers done. Oh, the things she is yet to learn about the concept of "do as I say not as I do" lol)

Anyway I was about to bite the bullet and have it done and then I remembered Kenny's suggestion of doing something really scary the day before my driving test. And I thought, PERFECT!

So now I am going to have my nose violently assaulted next Tuesday and guess what, it's already working. I am far more anxious about this impending nasal pain than about the driving test the next day.

So, thanks Kenny. Quite a clever little idea for dealing with my nerves, thank-you!!!

Melly,

A woman wearing a cat on her head will be taking my advice and getting her nose pierced next week. I'm not sure that is something I ever expected to have happen in my life, but I'm glad it's working for you! Just keep imagining how horribly painful it is going to be lol.

I wish you good luck on that thing that you have forgotten all about.

kenny

And now I have the support of a laughing, flying snow-puppy! Hoorah!
Lol.
I'm sorry if this seems frivolous or silly. My nerves are something I struggle to control and this little distraction is helping. Passing my drivers test will make it so much easier to move on to a new life without A. It is actually in the name of something important and worthwhile, lol.

Thank-you, smiling driving dog. Now, for the love of everything that is holy, please turn around and watch the road!

I'm in America, therefore I am a passenger! Also, we are stopped at a Speedway gas (petrol) station when my owner took this! I'm still not really sure what that cat is doing, and am not sure I want to know!

Well, the nose-piercing is scheduled for next Tuesday and the test is on Wednesday. So just at this moment my nose is feeling quite fine. HOWEVER don't be too dissapointed Kenny because I've been to the dentist today and my mouth is very sore. So there is pain....lol!
You know what though, I had a driving lesson this morning before the dentist and I actually was in quite a bit of pain and I drove perfectly, at the end she said she said she thought I was too miserable about my sore broken tooth to be nervous and we joked that being in pain improves my driving considerably so...maybe this really is a great plan after all. In fact perhaps this could be the start of a new career for me too- once I am licensed I could start a driving school for nervous drivers where I poke them with a sharp stick while they are driving to distract them from their nerves.....

When I took my driving test it was a really hot day. We rarely had air conditioning in our cars back then, just usually opened the windows to keep cool. However I did not want to miss anything that the test man said so I kept my window shut. I had a drop of sweat on the end of my nose just waiting to drip off for half the test!

LOL! Not unlike Vanessa Redgrave in her beautiful white furs with Omar Shariff as they sat talking together in a snow covered forest (okay, it wasn't a hot day but stay with me on this one) and her nose was dripping from the bitter cold in Dr. Zhivago. Hard to get into that supposedly very romantic scene when every fiber in my being wanted to search out a Kleenex and get it to her somehow. Perhaps your tester was also dying to hand you a tissue or shake your head a little just to get rid of the sweat bead?

But you passed. So I think the message here is, not only should I ensure that I am in awful pain but, I should also wear thermal underwear, several layers of woolen clothing and a heavy coat and turn the heating in the car up high before we begin. I'm going to be so well prepared this time, I can't possibly fail!

And if the tester stops for a drink on the way back, Miss Mellie, you can be sure this test was one that required a tester with nerves of steel and they failed. They may just pass you to make sure they don't have to take you on a driving test again.

I wasn't so sure that I wanted to jump into this post cause I kept trying shake of the effects it was having on my mind.   I'm sure it has something to do with the last word of the second step and the promise of sanity.   I don't do pain especially as a motivator to do something that pain would distract me from like a critical test taken in a moving vehicle out in public.  I use to fly airplanes and wanted my license and the safety requirements are also critical so what I use to do before my training flights was envision the process I would be doing...the checking out the plane...starting the engine...rolling out to the take off pad...asking permission to take off...the acceleration and bringing the plane up to lift speed and then the rotation to take it off the ground and into the air and then reporting my flight intentions.  I also envisioned the same process on landing the airplane safely and putting it back where I got it.  I didn't have any cars or other airplanes around me up there so by perception I was of less danger to myself and others.

Try sitting in a chair and perceiving that you're sitting in the car seat and envision the test process which you have already done once.  Do it painlessly and dry practice this everyday up until the test...get your nose pierced after the test...just my experience.  ((((hugs)))) smile

Pain wasn't really the idea Jerry, or not with any seriousness. It was just the distraction of worrying about something frivolous instead of getting all worked up and shaky again. Sorry, wasn't trying to make anyone feel uncomfortable.

You're doing fine, Melly. We all have our ways of doing what we need to do for ourselves. I can remember when you were afraid of going to the dentist and you do that now with regularity even though it is painful. If you need to laugh yourself through this test, then there are a group of us who will laugh right along with you and one good driver with good tips on how to take the test easily and with serenity. All of us in our MIP family have our gifts and our wisdom to share. If you did anything for me today, you helped lift me out of something I needed to move beyond. (((M)))
