The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
By movie quotes - things I might not have paid much attention to until I started paying attention to the world through Al-Anon eyes.
Eventually, all things merge into one................... and a river runs through it.
What are your favorite movie phrases?
I am haunted by waters......
How do you pick up the threads of an old life? How do you go on, when in your heart you begin to understand there *is* no going back? There are some things time cannot mend. Some hurts that go too deep that have taken hold.....
Some movie quotes really get to me - What's yours?

I am strong in the broken places. ~ Unknown
All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another! ~ Anatole France
Movie: "Gone with the Wind." Rhett to Scarlett: "Frankly, Scarlett, I don't give a damn." When I'm caring too much about what somebody else thinks, feels or does.
Movie: "The Diary of Anne Frank." Anne: "...I believe that people are good..."(paraphrased) When I'm faced with difficult things in me that I don't like or in others.
Movie Musical: "Annie." Orphans: "It's a hard knock life for us." When I'm making too much of something, I sing this phrase. Movie Musical: "Annie." Annie: "The sun will come up tomorrow, bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow, there'll be sun. Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love you, tomorrow. Tomorrow's a day away." When I'm feeling sad and everything is looking negative.
Movie Musical: "Porgy and Bess:" Porgy: "I gets weary and sick of plantin'. Am tired of living and feared of dying. But ole man river, he just keeps rollin', he keeps on rollin' along." I sing this when I am discouraged.
Movie Musical: "Chicago." Don't remember the name: "Come on down, we're gonna paint the town, and all that jazz." (At least, I think its from Chicago.) I sing this when I need some fun in my life.
Movie Musical: "Evita." Eva Perrone: "I kept my promise. Don't keep your distance." I sing this when I am hurting sometimes.

Here's another great one from A River Runs Through It (the book, not the movie, though there's a version in the movie):
Each one of us here today will at one time in our lives look upon a loved one who is in need and ask the same question: We are willing to help, Lord, but what, if anything, is needed? For it is true we can seldom help those closest to us. Either we don't know what part of ourselves to give or, more often than not, the part we have to give is not wanted. And so it is those we live with and should know who elude us. But we can still love them - we can love completely without complete understanding.
This really resonates with me. I do love my AH, truly, but I can't help him.
Not from a movie, from another book, but also very meaningful to me:
"Images from the far past crowd in my head and half the time I cannot tell whether they are memories or inventions. Not that there is much difference between the two, if indeed there is any difference at all. Some say that without realizing it we make it all up as we go along, embroidering and embellishing, and I am inclined to credit it, for Madam Memory is a great and subtle dissembler. When I look back all is flux, without beginning and flowing towards no end, or none that I shall experience, except as a final full stop. The items of flotsam that I choose to salvage from the general wreckage and what is a life but a gradual shipwreck? may take on an aspect of inevitability when I put them on display in their glass showcases, but they are random; representative, perhaps, perhaps compellingly so, but random nonetheless." John Banville, Ancient Light
"If you're going to sin, you might as well be original".
Its from a TV show not a movie but, it's my favorite quote for when I know the right thing for me to do is against the status quo.

I was rather taken by The Fisher King recently - and this is the quote that comes to mind: Jack Lucas 'Did you loose your mind all at once, or was it a slow gradual process?'
I love all of these quotes and my mind is empty to recall any! I know what you mean about being moved. Music moves me...when I am moved, I so appreciate the experience as I know I am close to my HP.
