I am in the process of getting my security system..... Yipee
i still have my ADT, they gave me a good rate b/c i have been with them for a long time.......however, 2 pit bulls, i feel safest with , LOL....my "girls" will eat anyone who tries to mess w/me or come into the house/property w/out my invite.....
funny...today is friday...lawn mowing day and i have this sliding glass door and dogs were still inside so i could mow the back part (their part) in peace.....i am mowing and someone walked up the alley, stopped and shouted at me if i needed "help" for a price, of course....well my black pittie was at the sliding door and WOW, i wouldn't , if I were a burglar, want to break in that house if you paid me a king's ransom......she and her "sister" are real good protection and i feel real safe...nothing like doing stuff to make ya safe.......glad u did this......when we are proactive in caring for us, we ARE safer and our inner, wounded child sees this and therefore feels more safe to "come out and play/have fun"......
Good on you.........

I couldn't afford a security system when I was first divorced and living alone and on my own as a single woman with two children to protect. Friends of mine came to my house, changed my locks, put nails in windows so that they'd only go up high enough for air but not high enough for a body and I'd pile cans up at both access doors. I slept with a hammer under my pillow, too. My Dad knew me well enough to know I probably wouldn't use the hammer to hurt anybody including an intruder - all my strength was in my hips, legs and not my upper torso anyway - but, it still helped me feel less vulnerable and unprotected. As I continued to take good care of myself and widening my circle of friends and healthy choices of activities for me, I stopped piling cans, put the hammer in a drawer and still maintained reasonable security measures for me and my children.
Doing everything you can to help yourself feel safer, Truth, and reaching out to us and to others "in the flesh" is a delight for me to read. I know you are going to be okay as you keep on going and growing. (((T)))

Thank you Grateful. I cannot imagine having the fear of no money on top of all the other. You are an amazing woman. I am very fortunate I am educated and have a good job. I am also very fortunate that I had that opportunity.
I know I will be okay too. My head finally feels like it is on straight. My thoughts are way less jumbled.
Haha I just set off the alarm -oops. They told me they do practice runs
I've done that myself with the security system I had installed at work. Nothing like having to careen through the City on winter mornings at 3 am to meet the police because somebody didn't close a door in the property and our cat triggered the alarm. There is an upside to those systems and a downside, too.

LOL...oh yea, my old job.....adt would call me middle of the night and it would be a rodent or a cat looking for free lodgings......we had a wild mama cat get in the warehoue and she "gifted" us w/her babies.......I made friends with the family and took mama in to shelter for a free spay and babies were placed in good homes.....but oh yea, mama kitty tripped the alarm a few times b4 we became friends and i placed her with the folks across the alley who had a HUGE mouse problem.........
LOL @you, grateful with the hammer under your pillow....i can just picture that, hahahaha....that is funny, but not funny to be so scared you gotta do all this stuff to feel safe.....I have a .12 gauge shot gun IF they get past my pit bulls who would tear an intruder to shreds, but IF they got past, I got "stanley steamer" for them....aim for body mass and pull the trigger....i can put one in the chamber and 4 in the magazine.....that gun is in my bedroom and god forbid i have to use it, I would....in TX we have the "stand your ground" law, like in FLA and a few other states where one can, if under threat of bodily harm or death, can take out their threat and do it legally.....my X #2 and i used to go to range and practice w/our pistols...he bought me "stanley"

LOL! I don't know, Rose. Something about that baby chick talking about her Stanley and how quick she can load just doesn't make me quiver with fear. She kinda makes me want to bend down, pick her up and give her a little peck(pun intended) on the cheek. (((R)))

Aww, Rose. Thank you for the affirmation, sister. See why I wouldn't be afraid of that little chick with the teeny-tiny rifle? Even if she bared her beak at me. (Can a chick bare her beak? Grin)

(((((((((((((((C)))))))))))))) Catherine...loving...sweet Catherine....I wold never "bare a beak" at you but i will open my little wings for a gentle hug...........hehehe and when chicks or chickens feel threatened they kinda "fluff up and they will raise a wing and SQUAK" and they look funny.......i used to raise them , and it was fun, nurturing my chicks into nice laying hens and it was funny, they knew me, would come to me but strangers they would flap their wings and do that loud squak....they are funny, i kinda miss having them, but the hawks here get them and if eggs keep going up in price, I may either build my own coop or find a huge cage at a garage sale and modify it for chickens and raise my own eggs......went to store and organic eggs were over 4 bucks..........YIKES

Thank you, Rose. I most certainly would enjoy a little chick hug from you. I didn't know that about chickens and how they try to defend themselves when approached by what may or may not be a stranger or a predator. The idea of hawks swooping down on them makes me feel sick inside for some reason. I understand that is natural and its not personal but it always hurts my heart. The circle of life is what it is and I find that some of that what it is isn't to my liking. I turn away when I am powerless over some of it and like the descriptions of your chickens will sometimes squak and flap my wings, too. I know that you would tend nicely to those little gals should you decide to build your own coop (smart and skilled, too!))). I hope you do. There will be some chickens who will be treated as living creatures and not just as a tool to be used for food. (((R)))
