Terminally ill mum

Hi In March my mum was given 6 months, she has laid off the alcohol until last week and is currently going through withdrawal again, This has happened countless times and she has nearly died 4 times in the last 8 years, I'm a mum, 3 kids, eldest doing exams at the moment, a wifey, and sister and have 3 jobs, not coping this week, I am reading courage to change which a friend gave me, there is no chance of me attending a meeting at the moment, but am relieved to find this forum, thanks to all at al-anon for setting this up, it's another way to communicate with otheres going th rough similar situations, and feels somehow comforting, as i'm typing i can feel myself relaxing a bit little by little XX mum has varices and has been told these are probably going to burst, but we know not when which has been a shocker to live with, trying not to worry every moment of every day, but it really ain't easy! thanks for reading this if you do XX

Welcome tattoovick

I'm so sorry that your going through this but I do know your not alone. We want so bad for our love ones to stop their madness and get better but it's not going to happen unless they want it. We come to realize we can't help them so it's best to let go....let God step in and just love them with kindness and understanding. I know it's not easy to not worry about them but what it does do is just hurt us more. With Al-anon we learn not to worry so much and how to handle the fears we feel. We learn what our part is in this world and how to handle anything with respect, dignity and love.

Keep the focus on yourself and give your mum love while on this earth.

((( hugs ))))

Hi tattoovick,

It's amazing how sometimes just talking about to people who have been through similar things can help. That is one of the principles that Al anon was started on.

I love this site, Miracles In Progress. you can get ES&H here on the forums, and there is also an online meeting you can attend at www.12stepforums.net/chatroom2.html

Also, there are quite often people just hanging in the chatroom, especially after meetings there are usually very good "meeting after the meeting"s that happen.

I'm glad you know the 3C's already, and I hope you understand that we are all powerless over alcohol. That realization of my powerlessness is what gave me the power I needed to be able to change the one thing I could - me.

Peace
Kenny

Welcome tattoovick,
I am very sorry to hear of the pain you are in and know only too well how very hard it is to live with this disease. I am pleased that you have the C2C and are reading it. That wonderful little book helps me each morning to center myself and begin once again to trust that the God of my understanding will guide me and my family each day
You are not alone so please keep coming back.
