Alanon family group. I thought that meant it helped families of alcoholics which of course it does but it also means its a group of people who are like a family. In my meeting tonight an old timer shared about her a child and they are in a bad way, she was upset and it kind of hit me that I really care for her and I got upset because I know what shes going through to a certain extent and I could feel her pain and I felt priviliged to be part of a group where she got relief and actualy trusted us to reveal her inner most thoughts and feelings. She waited to come to the meeting before she felt she could cry, she said she felt safe. Its a special place when people feel this way. Im glad its in my life. I'm so glad you felt a sense of belonging in and with the people who make up your Al-Anon family, el cee. We can't grow on our own very well and with others - well, you already know what can happen.
My heart opened as I felt safe in the rooms of al anon and with my sponsor. Now I can take my open heart outside of the rooms of al anon and feel safe almost anywhere because I trust myself to care for me...i have my hp close and peeps I can contact when I feel compromised or shaky. You have a good heart, elcee.
I think this whole 12 steps thing, be it alanon, aca, coda, aa, whatever where a bunch of people from all walks of life can come together for one commone goal....mutual caring and sharing...that forms bonds....for some of us our very first healthy bonds....xxoo

I never really thought about that double meaning for family before but it so true - the safety of family is so important, and that family is much wider than we think isn't it?
At my Tuesday night meeting we talked about the traditions and how they help keep our meetings balanced, and stable so we have a safe place to come and be able to feel loved. I had a hard time being vulnerable until al-anon, now it has gotten a lot easier. Sending you love and support!
