I had a great driving lesson yesterday. I just love this instructor. I do believe together we're actually going to get me licensed and in the not-too-distant future! Yesterday we drove all around the city and I actually had FUN. Ha!
She's good at seeing the areas where I make things harder for myself than they need to be. For example, did you know that when you change lanes you don't need to turn all the way around and look at the horizon behind you? Lol I can't believe that in 18 years of driving attempts no-one has ever pointed out that the reason I wobble all over the road when changing lanes is because I'm actually getting up out of my seat to look at the road behind me. No-one has ever explained to me exactly where this blind spot business is before so I figured I needed to view the road panoramically.. it makes me giggle now. Was I really doing that?
Anyway whatever else is going on in my world, I feel really good about this. Such a huge hurdle...I always viewed it as a real handicap that I'd never overcome and suddenly, it's just coming together. This must sound soooooo silly to everyone but it's been a big source of shame to me throughout my life and now, all because HP decided to make me go to an employment agency that I didn't want or need to go to...
They will also pay for the driving test, I learned yesterday. They're more like a "fairy-god-mother" agency lol.
Wow, that's great Melly! I'm so happy for you that you are able to get this done. I have heard despair in many of your previous posts as to this situation, it is definitely a situation that can leave you feeling trapped if you can't drive. My AW has lost her license for a year, so now she doesn't go nearly as many places as she would like, really can't get a job because we live a few miles away from any sources of employment, and there is no bus system out in the country where we are. It's extremely frustrating and embarrassing for her.
It's funny how actually being instructed can result in people doing well. Never being told how the blind spot works, and what you have to do to pass/change lanes will really handicap you. Wait til you come visit us over here in the US and you have to start driving on the right (not correct) side of the road!
