letting go...not al anon but very important to me!

I have been involved in an organization for over 19 years & have decided to quit. It involves weight loss & is not a 12-step program. I just need to air out some of my concerns & issues in making this major decision. At this point I almost feel black-balled in a sense. Things are changing w/ the times & I personally feel the need to let go. I have struggled w/ attendance a lot lately. And, I know that I have been an asset to this group & a support system to all. Actually, I am one of the few long-standing members that are still w/ the group--people have come & gone but I stayed. They almost could count on me being there. I have been an officer for them more than once. I have even got awards for being a big loser, losing over 35 pounds. Anyhow, I am going to continue to go to another 12-step program to fill the void. I hope I have enough support to continue my journey to wellness. For now, I am kind of stuck. I feel like my decision is somewhat sound but I need some time to process it. I haven't had the best time of it lately.

Also, for what it is worth, I have always had issues w/ getting up for meetings & have struggled w/ just being there.

Sorry about the non- Al anon issue but this is affecting my serenity.

Kathleen

I think it's very much codependency-related though. It sounds as if you were attending unhappily for many years mainly because others expected you to be there and you didn't want to let them down. So good for you, for making the break and honoring your own needs and wants.

Kathleen, I agree with CTF. I have some of the same problems. I will hang on to a dead dog kind of a situation just to not have to say goodbye to people or have to tell them that something they seem to value highly no longer meets my needs. So, yes, good for you, it may not be AlAnon-related, but it is growth-related, and that is the real reason we are all here IMHO.

In support Kathleen, you sound clear that this may not be the best for you at this point in time...way to go!
