I posted this on the AA board, but wanted to share it here too cuz you guys are my peeps too :) -
The job I had when I first got sober was on a juvenile detention unit. I did not get along with the clinical director for numerous reasons. Many of those were due to my character defects and poor boundaries due to being in early sobriety (and leftovers from being an active drunk during part of that period). It was chaotic. The clinical director was also unethical though and many people didn't get along with her. I also resented her because I was not licensed and had to answer to her and felt she was a giant hypocrite (yeah I know, inventory taking). I had it out with her a few times...got written up and suspended without pay even for 2 weeks. She got fired less than a year after I quit there. My journey over the last several years has been interesting for sure. Aside from meeting my partner about 4 years ago and us now being on the verge of getting married in 2 months, I got licensed in my field and have progressed. Last week, that same company where I have former coworkers that have seen my growth and that I stayed in contact with...That company made me the clinical director.
No, it's not been all easy and steadily upward the last 5 and a half years. There's been breakups, work drama, other life stuff. But it's amazing what happens when you take alcohol out of the picture and get the hell out of your own way. God will take you on a far more interesting and rewarding ride than booze ever could.
Hi Mark,
What fantastic news, they will be lucky to have you.
Only two months to the wedding - how exciting for you both.
I love the term 'full circle' and use it a lot in my work so couldn't resist your post on many, many levels.
Smiles from Italia and ((((hugs)))))
Congratulations! You are an example of the new life that is possible by choosing to let go of something that was killing you and holding fast to something that would help you live. Wow! The wedding is only two months away?!!!! That is such good news, too.
I saw it on the AA site and wanted so bad to congratulate you. CONGRATS!!!! You got the right stuff my man. Good luck on all your upcoming adventures/wedding and may life give you what you deserve because of your hard work.
((( hugs )))

Congratulations and thank you for your wonderful and inspiring share! It's so nice to see the hard work (an understatement) pay off. It would be nice to see a book or movie come out of this;)
I love this post and to hear how your recovery has taken you to new and better places. I agree it does get better when we can get out of our own way! Sending you Congratulations, love and support!
