One day last month I was at work (I'm a condo cop, that's like a mall cop but....well you get it right?). My cell phone rang. Private number. Figured it was a sponcee so I answered it. It was a reporter for the local TV station. After he verified who I was, he starts asking me questions about a photo on - a popular social media site. It was a photo of a plastic bag filled with scarves that was tied to a stop sign in downtown Halifax. I don't live in Halifax but that's where I work. Anyway, I don't know what this guy's talking about so I tell him that. I was going to hang up but he said it has to do with your organization. I'm involved with a community outreach for persons in recovery from addictions. It's something we started about a year ago. We have a committee of volunteer knitters. They knit scarves and we give those scarves to local recovery houses, methadone clinics, etc and they give them to their clients, it's a very rewarding venture. I guess someone who knew what we were doing saw the photo and gave us the credit for the act of kindness at the stop sign. So I explain all this to the reporter and he says very interesting work you're doing perhaps we can do an interview with you and some of the knitters. Next thing we know we're on the news. It was just a two minute clip, but as a result of the publicity we acquired more volunteers, so it worked out quite well.
Just thought I'd post that because it's positive and I'm feeling positive.
