Got my first letter today from my son and it was nice to hear from him. He said he hasn't gotten all my letters because they were redacted because of the content I guess. I cut and pasted news articles about what is going on around and world. Sucks he can't know about the plane missing or what is happening in Russia....oh well.
They also black out parts of some of my letters....like he said whatever I wrote after my signature " LOVE MOM ". Well after my love mom I draw a happy face with hair. You mean they don't like my happy face and what is written is " (BLACKED OUT) " Redacted for National Security" LOL
My son said he is physically OK. Emotionally not so much. He calls it the 4-D's Dejected, Depressed, Demoralized and Dysphoric. He also said he got what he deserved and quote: " I except that"
He says he has a window with a view of the hills in his cell that is nice to stare out of like a cat for hours, but it messes with his head especially when he can see a free person walking....
He hopes to get to DOC soon to start his sentence because he can work, get to meetings and go outside once in a while.
Many more things said but the most important was "I love you mom, be happy and have fun"
I love my son and all I want is HP take care of him no matter what happens.

Thank you everyone. I will be able to go see him on the 1st of May. Visiting is only on Thursdays and I have to work and because of how far away he is I can't get up there after work. His sentencing will be on the 5th. of May because he is not going to fight it and take a plea. Not sure what that will be yet but will find out. I will be in court with his father. He wants to get to prison as soon as possible to start his time. One 3 of the prisons he might go to are here in Phoenix so I will be able to see him more often. If they should send him to a prison in Douglas, AZ I won't be able to see if very often...it's so far away. Below Tuscon AZ. Will see what happens..

Impressive- not many of us can claim to have cracked (or violated) a national security code! It was thoughtful of you to try and keep him informed as well as personalize your letter with a smiley face. I'm glad your sense of humor is alive and well and will help with the policy limitations.
Cathy I am so happy for you that you heard from your son. It speaks volumes that he showed such warmth and love towards you and wants you to live and enjoy your life. Best and I will send lots more prayers.

Hi Cathy, he sounds like he has accepted responsibility for his actions. That is a big step toward recovery!
On a side note; can you imagine the person who has the job of blacking out a smiley face doodle drawn by an inmate's mother? There must not be much going on at his jail so that is another good thing. :)
