I love reading One Day at a Time, Courage to Change and Hope for Today. On February 27th One Day at Time had a great reminder:
Today's Reminder
Trying to analyze why another person persists in destructive behaviors cannot help me out of my own difficulties. I can overcome them only by turning my thoughts inward, to face my own mistakes and to learn how to improve myself. The alcoholic is not my problem. My problem is me.
I just thought it is so true. My problem is me.
I am also reading Getting Them Sober. I see so many things, and I am only on page 38, that I have done wrong. All of the literature we can read will help us. I know in the "heated moment" a lot is said by both the spouse and the alcoholic. Reading each days makes me want to be a better person. None of us are perfect. We just have to be the best we can be.
Thank you for posting - I needed this reminder today! I didn't develop these distortions overnight and I'm not likely to change them all overnight either- awareness is the first step in dismantling old patterns that do not serve well.
