Group in Inverness?

Hi there,

I have an alcoholic mother and after recently visiting home I have been struggling with the deteriorating situation and was wondering if anyone on here went to the Inverness al-anon group at new craigs on saturday? Do I need to call up in advance or just turn up?

                       Kind Regards

Welcome Frustrated

I know how bad it can be to see your mother like this. Your making a good choice by attending meetings. Al-anon meetings all over the world are open to anyone affected by Alcoholism so you don't need to call in advance. You just show up and take a chair and listen. You might want to share your story, you might not but that is your choice.

Welcome to MIP.......we care about you and you are not alone.

Im from Scotland too, not as far north as you though. Im just outside Glasgow. Search up the Alanon UK and Eire website, there is a search for meetings tab, it will give you all meetings and times. You just turn up and you will be given a very warm welcome. Welcome to this forum as well, we have all been affected by alcoholism and in Alanon we learn to live a different way and recover from the damage.x

Welcome and congratulations. You are embarking on a journey at your young age that can be a lifetime of love, friendship, support, honesty, and thousands of years of recovery at your beck and call almost anywhere you go. You have the opportunity to build a lifetime of healthy relationships and loving interchange through good times and bad. I didn't have Alanon on the high seas but virtually every country in the free world has alanon. May you find the answers you seek and the relief from alcoholism you deserve to have in your life.

Hi Again

Alanon is a Spiritual Program and not a religious one  We are from all different walks of life and different religions.

You will be welcomed and never asked about your religion.

Good luck

As Betty said we are from all different religions and some no religion at all. Being spiritual mean we believe in a HP ( higher power ) that can give us the hope and strength we need to overcome this disease no matter if the alcoholic is drinking or not.

HP grant me the serenity to except the things I can not change
The courage to change the thing I can
And the wisdom to know the difference

Many use Al-anon as their higher power until they learn the program and find their own way.

(((( hugs ))))

The landscape around Inverness has lifted my spirits very well in the past - does that count?

Its having faith in the world and that things can get better if we want it to and are willing to learn a new way of thinking. I am a Christian and have gotten closer to the God of my understanding in working my al-anon program. I have met so many people who are not traditional Christians that work a great program and have taught me to be more open, loving and compassionate towards myself and others. I have found my Spiritual side since starting my al-anon journey and work hard at not judging, by trying to accept things as they come and learn the lessons I can to make my life better. I have received so many tools on handling people and situations in my 3 years since diving into al-anon with face to face meetings, my sponsor and MIP and life just keeps getting better. Sending you love and support on your journey!
