I posted a few days ago of the drama that started when my addict son got stranded and wanted me to come "rescue" him, after doing who knows what amount of pills, losing his id (and come to find out his back pack & whatever was in it, as well as having something happen to his face that looked like someone mopped the ground with it). I told him no and blocked his phone number.tired of the drama & he can be relentless with calls and texts. I did unblock his phone once I figured out he had gotten back to his place.
The new thing that happened was he has actually asked for help. He has gotten in touch with a buddy of his that is 2 years sober and very involved and connected in the sober community. Before, he has always wanted to do it on his own :( This is the first time he has asked someone for help and started to put together a program for himself. I feel good about this, not that it will work out, but it reinforces the tough 'no's" I've been saying to him. The working out part is all up to him.
This is so encouraging to me, I have been working a program for myself instead of working to fix him. I've let go of the need to control what he does, I never controlled it anyway. Duh. Funny, I've been waiting for him to hit his bottom, when what I really needed was to hit my bottom.
Thank you to all who have posted and prayed for me and my son. These boards are awesome, with the kindness, compassion & wisdom.
Thank you for the update, heythere. I'm glad your son is reaching out for help from someone who's been there and is there, too. Continued prayers for you and for your family.
Hey...Hey...good to have that feedback...for me that is a YAY!! I love to watch miracles start against this cunning, powerful and baffling disease and also I love to understand that the miracles come from doing our part. You did your part and you got a different outcome. Thats a verification for me also. Thanks ((((hugs))))

Oh yea, Jerry, thanks for the confirm "you did your part and you got a different outcome." I used to "wait" for life to rescue me, or some kind of rescue....It took me a while to figure it out that I had to do MY part...Change me within....do ALL my best and THEN surrender the rest....Creator wants us to reach out and be proactive about helping ourselves, I truly believe...We gotta make the effort and then let HP "close the deal" if we can't......once i saw that as my reality, life is so much less hassle.....

Thank you for sharing. I love seeing how HP steps in when we step aside. It is a powerful result that comes from accepting we are powerless. I will say a prayer for you and your family.
Paris, I do see now how his HP is stepping in now that I have gotten out of the way.
Jerry, neshema all the stuff I had been doing to try and control my son was quite literally making me crazy/insane. And I had kept remembering this quote: Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. (Albert Einstein) But I was unable to break my controling behavior. Until I reached my bottom and had to let go or go down with him.
