What MIP is to me.

I came to  MIP because it seemed like a place where I could learn to be the best Melly I could be.

I felt like I could remove the chains of "I'm not a good enough mother, I'm not a good enough worker, I'm not a good enough girlfriend, I'm not good enough" and just talk about me, without shame.

It has been working really well for me, because as I feel free to be me, truly honestly me, hurt broken lazy angry silly me, rude, work-ethically challenged sarcastic codependent enabling Melly, I feel like the more I talk, the more the shackles are removed and I feel good to tackle the bigger scarier parts of my life. And I am tackling them. It's awesome.

But I am not here to be the best mother I can be. I am not here to develop a work ethic. I am not here to be a kind and loving supporter of my alcoholic. Do you know what? I am the best mother I can be. My work ethic is cool with me. And I have been a kind and loving supporter of my alcoholic for many years. I'm still here to talk about me. The more I get right with myself, the better I handle my own life.

That's what MIP is for me. A chance to talk about me. What I think, what I fear, what I feel. What I want and what I am too afraid to say out loud.

What a gift.

Melly..... I just love reading your posts!!  Your sense of humor and honesty, gets me every time!! You show such patience and compassion.  I have seen such growth in you... reading your posts and how you are handling different situations. Alanon is a "selfish" program because it is about getting us well.  So, you are working it well!!  :)  Here is to hoping you have a good New Years Eve and all of 2014!!

Great share melly, the more we progress the better we are with all our relationships anyway, so the mothering part gets better naturally as do all our relationships. Im not sure what you mean about work ethic though.x

Thanks for the words of wisdom. And what a coincidence - the more you work on you, the more kind, loving, and supportive you are able to be I'm going to wager!
