in my area the one meeting a week, is a bit unhealthy and a few people from here go 45 minutes away to a different great meeting that I love also. I am so busy that it just seems crazy that we don't have one in our bigger area and it might draw in more people (build it and they will come) at least that is what I hope will happen, but even for the 3 of us I am okay with that. Just need some ESH and wonder what anyone else has discovered trying to start a meeting? The lady that hosts the meeting 45 mintues away thinks its a great idea and is willing to help. I am going to ask a few places about having the meeting at their place and see what comes of that. I am off of school for a month and will make the meeting a time that works for me while back in, but hopefully done the foot work during this time to have it up and going. Anyone think I am crazy with school, job and kids? I just need to stay sane and a meeting helps keep me serene and growing. Bring on the ESH thoughts, ideas or anything you may want to share. Sending you all love and support!

In support...Yay!!...find a host location and negotiate the monthly rent...donation. See if the other meetings will support yours with literature...pamphlets. Speak with others about a good time to hold it and then ask current members in your area if they will also support it also. design a meeting notice and get it out to the other meetings (45 minutes away might be difficult and anyway...) and other facilities in your area...mental health, hospitals, churches and such and then patience, prayer, persistence. Let HP take over also. Good luck. Remember to register it with WSO and check with them about how they can help. (((((hugs)))))

Yay! Bfree... we the members make the meetings...! Our home meeting looks likely to go into recess... having a conscience meeting early in the New year. A neighbouring group I used to go to also closed down. I went and had coffee with the remaining member there and felt the closure was unavoidable.
Will give our group my best shot! I have been involved in starting groups three times now. I have a good sense of what works...
...being on this board has given me a good idea of what a large big-city meeting might be like... I am not reliant on it... I really do like being in touch tho'
I have found Government hospitals as well as local City hospitals, schools and churches are very agreeable to providing meeting space. I have given them a brief overview of alanon ,the organization our not for profit status and World Wide Affiliation. I refer them to the Inter Group office so they can confirm our validity.
Inter group office can provide you with the Group manual and literature such as beginner packages, pamphlets, and suggestions for meeting formats. 'Once the meeting gets started you can develop a Business meeting schedule to discuss any issues that might evolve at the beginning of a meeting.
It is most important to decide the format of the meeting, the type of meeting, the time, the amount of time a person can share,
New meetings are always a good idea , if you contact WSO they will send you a beginners packet which includes a few pieces of literature , guidelines and a new book with opening and closing etc . You can also ask your district for a few months financial support , if their funds can accomadate most districts are open to new meetings , contact your district rep to find out when their next meeting is and attend . good luck
