dealing with an active alcoholic today

Today I must work at my mom's (she is 90) house, with my brother, and her live in companion is an active alcoholic.  As a result he is angry all the time, unreasonable, stubborn, a real drag to deal with.  I feel steady as I face this task.  I think I will be reciting many slogans and using the Serenity Prayer to help me get through.  My personal goal is not to get upset or anxious, which usually happens when I am around him.  His anger often scares me, a leftover PTSD things from am abusive brother in my childhood.  I am asking HP to remove the fear.  He is not going to hurt me.  My nice brother will be with me.  And I would call the police as a last resort.  I do not want to allow him to take away my serenity today.  I feel pretty stable and good.  Thanks for letting me share this.  Lyne smile

I can relate to the anger and your ptsd....I don't deal at all w/active A's....I am outta there if i see one and he/she is aggressive in anyway....and yea,  i would let him know that he behaves or you are dropping the dime on him.....your there to help your mom,  not deal with an aggressive alcoholic......good on you....taking care of you...

Hi Lyne,

hold your hp's hand take it with you.  Sometimes in difficult situations I pop to the toilet for a chat with my hp for extra strength.

Take care of yourself

sending lots of hugs tracy xxxx

God: Grant Lyne the serenity to accept the things (and people) he cannot change, courage to change the things he can(what he thinks, what he feels, what he does and what he permits) and the wisdom to know the difference. Amen.
