Sharing literature

Just a little more on this for me, Melly - and I'm only one of many, many people. I gain a lot when I hear other people's experience, strength and hope on this board. When articles are posted by people I don't know a thing about and don't care about, I tune out on it. That, I'm sure, is not true for everybody. It is true for me. I get more from reading what you write about you and your experiences, strength and hope than I do from someone I've spent very little time with either personally or in this particular interactive way. I feel close to you in a lot of ways. I just can't warm up to a dead person's thoughts or an author's article or book as much as I can warm up to you and to others on this board. Of course, that's just me. And again - I'm really glad you asked the question. It helped me flush out more of my thoughts and feelings about this topic and share them. I didn't realize I thought this way until now. Wow! You helped me learn something new about me.  I'm not saying I don't appreciate other authors' ideas or learnings, its just that I warm up more to the people that share themselves on this board - like you,  (((M))).  I feel close to you.

I read a great article today posted on another forum about ptsd and codependant behaviour etc. Is it acceptable to share stuff like that here or are we only supposed to talk about approved literature? Just want to clarify the rules

There is a thread that asked those same questions and there was a response. Unfortunately, I don't remember which ones and even if I did, wouldn't know how to tell you where to access it. I do know that in Al-Anon meetings, nothing but Conference Approved Literature is used. Since we are trying to recover from the affects of alcoholism, I do think it is more helpful to me on this board to read things that have to do with that subject and recovery from it. PTSD is something we really aren't skilled to address on this board and while there is a lot out there on codependency - especially as Melody Beatty has addressed - my preference is to stay with Al-Anon literature - especially for people who are new to the program or are seeking a solution to the problem of alcoholism. That's just my opinion and my preference.

k I thought there might have been some others here who might benefit from reading it. But then, I guess if we all followed that logic, we could end up posting articles about almost anything!! I see sense in sticking to approved literature.
If anyone feels they suffer from ptsd/ codependence and is interested in reading an interesting article on managing it, please pm me and I'll send you a link
That's alright to say, yeah?

I don't think there is a right/wrong to it although John may weigh in on this since he started this board and those who are moderators, too. I just love that you asked the questions, Melly. You are a very caring person - that shows in this thread to me. (((M))) Much support and care for you.

I figure, ptsd is common after living for a long time in a crazy environment. Someone else posted here that "depression is anger that we don't feel we are allowed to express" or something like that. The article deals with teaching yourself to feel anger without being afraid. So a bell rang and I thought "gee, this might be relevant/ helpful".
Anyway I'll leave it there; I can see what a can of worms would be opened if everyone started posting psychology articles about this that and the other thing.

Always a bit of a grey area, but here is my take...

Within reason, literature can be shared on here, and should meet the following two general rules of thumb:

1. Should include the author/source of the material

2. Should be small portions (as in - we don't want to get into publishing entire articles/books - even of approved literature - that would inhibit book sales, etc...

Thanks for asking

Tom
