One day at a time...My wife announced that her son J called to say hello and to announce that he now has 24 years clean and sober and that is sooooo cool to hear and remember. When she and I first got together...I went over to her home for some mexican food (she does mexican like God likes it and therefore....)and as I was going in the door her son was leaving with a friend. She apparently told him a little about my own 9 years of sobriety and when he got to the door he turned and said "So Jerry, my mom told me that you have 9 years sober" and I said yes. He then asked me, "How did you do that"? and I told him, "I realized that there was no law that said I HAD to drink". He asked me what I said and I repeated it. His friend spoke up and told him that "they had to go" and he turned around and said "No...you go ahead. I'm not going tonight". Little di I know until much later that he and his friend were going out to drink and use. He came to the table where I was gonna munch a bunch of great soft tacos and he sat down to talk and listen. That was the very last time he every drank and used. Today he celebrated his 24 year clean and sober. HP works in mysterious ways HUH? He is married and his wife has been clean and sober (they met in recovery) for a long period of time and they have an angel by he name of Ruby Blue...and she is an angel. I smile alot on this cause I just love miracles. Mahalo Akua...Thank you God. (((hugs)))
A footnote to this? Counting all of the recovery time it goes to 100+ years.

What a lovely gift you were to this family that certainly was a powerful experience. "Attraction not promotion" as the Tradition urges, certainly worked well in this situation
Great story Jerry, and, I love the sentence "there is no law that says I have to drink!". Thanks
