notice self-improvement

Hi all- A spouse and I are away.  She is having difficulty walking.  Of course I've been telling her for years that she is going to loose her mobility but of course she never listened and of course I should have been minding my own business!  (Her weight is a huge problem and she admits the drinking she did the last few years made it so much worse.)

Today I said to her I'm making two suggestions:  The first was to see an orthopedic for proper evaluation and treatment and the second was to get a cane for walking like when away from home.  She immediately had reasons why both are not necessary.  So here is the thing:  I will not mention these suggestions again to the best of my new alanon brain.  I put it out there, I believe it is in her best interest, and I am done with these topics and moving on.  It pains me to see her suffering but I am POWERLESS over her behavior.  Thanks, Lyne

Nice work, Lyne. You and Betty said it all. I'm just here to once again send up a small cheer from the bleachers. (can't jump well anymore - old knees.)

Hi friends, My AH also has difficulty walking - arthritis from a bad car crash injury many years ago. He occasionally uses a cheap cane he picked up at a flea market, but it is flimsy and doesn't really help. He only uses it when he is really sore and it becomes almost impossible to walk. I have suggested, many times, before program, that he speak with his doctor to get a sturdier cane, but he has never taken action. Yesterday, as we were leaving a ball game and making the long walk back to the car he said, you know, I really should use a cane all the time, not just when I am really sore. It helps me, maybe it's time to admit I need it. I just smiled and told him I agreed. Maybe this time he will do what he needs to do to care for himself. Alanon has taught me that all things happen in God's time. I'm hopeful. Enjoy your vacation and keep up the good work
