Doing Better

Hi All

I have worked really really hard on myself this last week or so.  Taking care of me the best way I can.  I have my ups and downs but reality has set in and I have come to terms with it all.  Peace is setting in.  Al-anon has been my rock.......and HP my savior.

So.......I get another text today from my son...

Quote:  " I start at the ranch tomorrow afternoon.  Also, I was offered a bookkeeping job that fits within my ranch responsibilities. Will know about that later today."

????? Bookkeeping....my son does bookkeeping???... no way.  He's a IT geek...whatever....keep your thoughts to yourself Cathy... Don't engage.

OK.......now what do I say back.  Like Jerry said maybe something positive would be nice.....so I'm digging into my tool box trying to find something that's not to over the top ( something MOM would have done in the past ) but to let him know I care.   Nothing...I can't find anything to say...dang.  Maybe I should just let go of it.....but no....that's not positive.   OK come on Cathy...lets just keep this simple. Why are you going overboard over a text from your kid??  HELLO

So I came up with the only thing I thought would be good.....a Al-anon slogan.

Quote: " It works, if you work it, and your worth it.....good job"

Not heard a word back so I guess he thinks I'm a little out of the box  smile

Now back to my work on ME.......let go let GOD

I love that response. That is also an AA alogan of course so he should know it. I would love if my mom said that stuff to me lol. I would be like "You go mom with your 12 steppin self!" Of course my program is a little further along than your son but still...

He's lucky you have alanon.

Hey we do not know what others think. That was a fine text. Keep it simple remember? It's ok to say hey great! proud of you, love you mom.

My son has worked at many different things. He can do about anything. My grampa built bridges, was a motorcylce cop, fireman, farmer, gardener, could fix anything.

So I think it is great he is willing to go for something else. I know you won't believe it till you see it and good for you! Even if he falls on his face, you can say well dang it! So now whatcha going to do? Or well I know you will find your way! love mom

So what are you doing for you and what takes your mind away?? Where are you getting your love from? hugs, debilyn

Cathy: Loved reading this post. You worked to get here. He worked to get there - the job at the ranch. Loved Debilyn's question to you and possible responses you can use, too, if needed. And.....you've got newly constructed patio furniture to relax in as you read, text and type! Hugs from me, too!

If my son told me he was going to be doing any someone else's bookkeeping, I'd be inclined to tell him..."Put me on your visitors list and let me know when visiting day is for your cell block"  He would likely have great intentions, but I know my son,... he would not be able to keep his fingers out of the till.  "Three cents for you, two cents for me... three cents for you, two cents for me....  Then he would swear the books were balanced and he doesn't have a clue what happened!  LMAO

You did great!  I'll have to practice being able to respond to things regarding him in a more positive, program friendly manner.smile
