I have a bad back....muscle and soft tissue issues from eons of physical abuse and I think the ptsd added the back spasms that I have had since 1993.....the first ever attack (spasm) was so bad the muscle, I think tore and bled......I had to go to dr. to get sonar treatments on it to get the danged thing to release
I have had subsequent attacks since.....some bad, but never as bad as that one.....some not so bad.....I notice b/c I exercise regularly, I recover faster.....I only hit my pain meds and flexoril when absolutely needed
I had heard of soft tissue massage and pressure points, and just manipulating the muscles to get blood flowing and thus maybe some improvement??????
I play tennis (when I can find someone to hit with) and so I have tennis balls....TONS of them....New, old, inbetween
I grabbed some of the used ones...stuck a lot of them in a pillow case.....
spread the case on the floor, balls flat...big enough "baggie" to cover my entire lower back and the top of my buttocks
I lied on it to cover just those areas, brought my knees up to my chest and slowly rolled to the right...to the left......feeling the balls press my muscles almost felt "good" in a kinda "helping me pain"....I did this for 20 minutes.....got up and was a hell of a lot "looser" then I was.....back feels less "tight" more loose....
Just thought I would share this.........so tennis ball acupuncture is my new therapy to help me feel better and looser......
it also kept me focusing on my body for sure, LOL

Thank you for sharing, Neshema. After an injury, my body goes into overdrive trying to protect itself- moderation nothing- the muscles grip tightly closed, not knowing that it is now ok to let go (for me, letting go is a mind and body process!). Along with vitamins, good nutrition and hydration, I have had some success using a tennis ball on pressure points to coax the knotted muscles to relax. It can take several times before my muscles are "retrained" to relax.
We use tennis balls for acupressure all the time. We all play tennis and our massage therapist is a tennis player, too. she is very good at muscle release and deep tissue massage. One thing she told us is that you put the pressure on the tightness for about 5-10 seconds , and then release. You are trying to increase blood flow to the area not overwork or damage the muscle or tissue.
Also, there is a product I used in physical therapy for my back called the Thera-Cane. You can find it on Amazon. It's amazing for putting pressure on those spots where you just can't seem to reach, LOL. I used to be a yoga instructor too, so I learned a lot about the body and how to stretch and exercise to avoid injury. Unfortunately, I'm dealing with plantar fascitis right now that just won't go away as well as lower back issues that I'm doing my best to work on with my own PT stuff at home.
I have practiced psyco-cybernetics since the early seventies after a head-on automobile accident in 1964. Did all the chemicals and pt and stuff in between until one of the guys that worked for me got me the book by Maxwell Maltz and I started learning that kind of sci-fi ET practice. Your mind and belief system is hugely strong...your body will believe what your mind/visualization tells it and then respond properly. It's no trick...many people do it and many healers use it. The last accident I had under the influence of HALT that resulted in a nasty injury to my left index finger and which required 11 stitches to close in emergency is barely visible now and healing even better. Often times I practice healing my body and/or body parts while working. When I get home...if I have to...I use the floor only and psyco-cybernetics. It fits real well on the mental and spiritual levels of recovery.
