So I attended my first al anon meeting.  I didn't know what to expect....the group was so wonderful and warm.  One of the speakers read out her story (1 year member) and from her first line to the last it could have been my story.  They encouraged me to keep coming back which I will.  I felt empowered by the information I received and I read it twice a day, it gives me strength and keeps me on track and focused, although tonight I'm feeling those feelings of anger and frustration.  So my advice for all of you on the boards that are new, please go to a meeting, just give it a try, you will find comfort in a room full of people who know EXACTLY what you are going through.

Thanks for sharing! I am trying to get up the courage to attend a meeting. I know it is silly to be so nervous.

I love meetings because they fit my personality so well but my heart goes out to those who are nervous or not ready to go to meetings. The one thing to remember is that you don't have to talk, you can just sit and listen and grab a phone list. So, for those who are struggling, I second the encouragement to try a meeting. Thanks for sharing your experience, Magazine!

Welcome Magazine!!! Glad you made it to a meeting...they are great.  I was just talking to a person troubled by but her sister who is an A. I encouraged her to try a F2F meeting too. She was apprehensive and I told her the first meeting that I went to it felt like going home. Itis the one place you can go that everyone understands exactly what you are talking about....

So glad to hear you found yourself into the rooms of Al anon and found your way here to MIP! There is nowhere else that you can unburden your soul, rant and rave and be completely accepted, no judgments, just complete understanding. You can not do this alone. Good luck on the next steps on your journey to serenity. You are worth it!!!

Hi Magazine! :)

The first meeting is always the scariest. I remember my first meeting a year ago - my panic attacks were so bad I couldn't leave the

house without being medicated. But after that meeting I felt better, so I kept going, and slowly I started getting control over my panic attacks

and my emotional life.

Glad you found it helpful! :)

You took a step into a whole new beginning for you, Magazine. You felt your fear and did it anyway. Good work.
