It was interesting for sure. Found out I am working in inpatient residential rehab and not PHP. Most of the residents seem very young as I expected. There was some discussion about rebuilding trust with families and how to deal with stressors with family when they go home. We discussed alanon and what alanon does. Naturally, most of them thought alanon was a place where their significant others and families go to complain about them and they were surprised to hear otherwise. Just checking in mostly. I will not be talking any specifics about this job as it would not be ethical but wanted to just post briefly because 1. Being a member on this board motivated me into the job and 2. What I know about alanon 90 percent comes from here and it comes from you guys so I wanted you to know I can already see how it's going to help me on many levels - not just with regard to informing them and their families about alanon but also with helping me maintain boundaries and healthy detachment from the residents.

I don't know if this is something that you can do or not .. our rehab place has a family night once a month where our alanon group goes and talks about alanon and what it does and what it's not. Basically it's an ESH about what brought them to alanon and how alanon has changed their lives. I can't tell you how healing it is for both sides of the equation.
It's something to think about and it has opened a lot of minds and doors. Often at the open AA meetings I'm approached by RA's and asked for alanon lit for their families.
Anyway, congrats and how exciting!!
Hugs P :)

They are going to have that visiting every weekend but I will be expected to do at least 1 family session for each of them while they are there. The 2 therapists currently working there are not in the program so I've been told they are excited about the balance I bring. I have been educated already that it's standard practice to urge the family into alanon and tell the residents to suggest it to their families too but not for them to urge or push it since they have already been so taxing and demanding on their families.
I love where HP put you right now and know that you work a great program and will know just what to do! Sending you prayer, love and support in your new role!!!

Mark this is a good thing...I agree with what Breaking just said...HP is placing you where HP needs you. You got program and they are encouraged...You got program and the clients' families will get a working demonstration thru you. Your recovery is a plus because you are able to walk the talk and you know that you know that you know what this disease is all about. It mean't for me that I had to stay into and up with my own recovery because the easiest person in the group that could get tossed by false pride was me and so I did what I would like my parents and grand-parents and uncles, aunts, sisters and brothers to do...I stayed in and worked it.
