Medical Report...

Well, I got my physical and blood work done last Friday... today I spoke to the Dr.

"Over sensitive thyroid, very dehydrated, coupled with such low numbers for Iron, Potassium, (Protein level not even registering its so low) and a slew of other nutrients, that indicate I am very malnourished.  Glucose level extremely high, white blood cell count very low, .... In short, my system is in need of some urgent care.  I'll be getting 2 hours of a super dose nutrient IV every 3 days for a month at Dr's office.  He tends to think that its my very poor dietary habits that are causing most of my problems, including slow response time to reflex and motor skill testing, eye/hand coordination, and an escalation of anxiety attacks related to how the lack of nutrients is adversely effecting my nervous system, and thus my emotional coping machitisims (however you spell that word).  He says my anxiety attacks is my body screaming for help and the escalation of intensity in them is in proportion to the level of desperation my body is experiencing.  He is going to work with me on the cost of all this stuff, now that we got some test results to work with, and says he wants to monitor the white blood cell count over the next 90 days bi-weekly.  He has pretty much eliminated most of the food products I consume the most of (coca puffs, chocolate, coffee, pasta, double cheese burgers) and a wide assortment of other goodies I have overly indulged in, and outlined a high nutrient diet that is full of stuff I really don't care for.. like certain meats (liver? Yuke!), veggies, high carbon high protein drinks, 3 a day... called Ensure and 6 glasses of water.. not favored, not heated with caffeine added to it, but plain bottled drinking water! And of course, the cigarette smoking has seemingly become an appetite suppressant so... We are working on a stop smoking plan... (yikes!) He also provided me with a bunch of nutrient supplements to take daily.

No, I'm not dying, but I am deteriorating slowly and progressively, so that the quality of life is being threatened at this point and if I am not very proactive in the treatment of my condition, it will substantially reduce my overall level of functionality rather quickly.

So, I just ask that everyone send up prayers that I be able and remain willing to be as aggressive against what it is that I am up against seems to be.  Most of it has to do with live style changes, and as we all know... change is hard and requires work.  Right now as I write this, I am desperate enough to do whatever it takes... I just hope the desperation doesn't do a disappearing act any time soon.

Thanks for your love, support and prayers,

John

Hi, John. Oooooooh, you get to get your creative juices flowing as you cook/prepare more meals for yourself. Perhaps the incentive for long-term dietary change for you will be the fact you are feeling so much better with fewer anxiety attacks when you eat well? God sure supplied the way of it when you supplied the willingness. Good example of program work results. You're worth the extra effort you can expend on yourself and I'm glad you want to do that. Only a short time ago - all looked so bleak for you - and now - you even know the issues that are causing the disruptions in health and feeling good for you and have a doctor willing to work with you on all this.

If you read the past posts on your health - I think most everything this doctor told you was there - from the thyroid issues to the Ensure. You've been accompanied through all of this with your HP. Isn't that a fun thing to know? (((John))) Glad you can get better from here. Look forward to your shares. Might even find a new gal on the horizon when you're feeling healthy and energized again? Then, you can cook her your new meals.
(With candlelight, of course, and all the animals looking on, too)

(Forgive me. I'm a hopeless romantic. Matchmaker, matchmaker make him a match...la,la,la) Anyway! Great news!

Just a like helpful tip, sometimes ensure is hard for patients to tolerate, a product called boost is the same protein packed meal replacement/supplement. Strawberry is awesome, vanilla also. I'm a nurse & have tasted all 1st hand but just to make sure your Dr is ok with it you can bounce the idea off him IF you should have a hard time with the ensure. I hope you enjoy if, I found many people do. I drink boost often when on the go or working doubles. *Often chocolate for some reason of both ensure or boost are hard to tolerate for quite a few patients.

Hi John

Time to but your AA skills to work but this time on your health. One day at a time. When the body is healthy the mind is healthy. And it won't take that long before you feel the effects of being in better shape.

I'm so happy you got the help you need and big hugs my friend

smile Take care John. Being on two MIP boards has given a balance to my life- all things in balance- work and leisure, food and activity, being alone and company etc etc...

...the thing is it is you virtually who are offering these opportunities.

Hoping that over time you will be able to back up and enjoy them for yourself...aww

David.

Gosh, if I had things my way, I would take a trip to Bettina's who would beef me up with all sorts of good food, (I'd probably be good entertainment for her mom) LOL then I would go to AngieP, who is a RN and could be a daily medical consultant and then I would go hang out with Debilyn and take some good cookin' lessons. Then I would head to grateful2be and get her to help me get hooked up with a nice woman that will love me into good eating by cooking great healthy meals for me. Me cooking for her? Shit, I wouldn't feed my worse enemy what I cook most the time. All my cooking is experimental, and if I don't like it, I let the dogs try it out, and if they growl and back away from it, I know it needs to be trashed. It's hopeless. Can't be rescued at that point. LOL (I can't cook hardly at all) Heck, I was so darn proud of a spaghetti I made just using thin noodles, a lb of ground beef and raggu sauce that I took pictures of it and posted it on Facebook! LOL I have always been a drive thur or food delivered kind of guy.. if it can't be done in a microwave, with very simple instructions, I'm at a loss... get intimidated by recipes.

God, please help me.

John

Good for you getting in and seeing the doctor and taking the right steps to take good care of yourself.

I've seen time and again how important it is to put good, healthy stuff into my body. Even if I'd rather have a cookie. :P

A long time ago, I really didn't have much of a clue in the kitchen, either. I started getting better from watching cooking shows, and then venturing out and finding recipes online and in cookbooks that contained ingredients I knew I happened to like.

You're talking to someone who shunned veggies the first 25 years of her life. When I realized I needed to start taking better care of myself, I slowly began introducing veggies to my diet. I hated them at first, but when I learned to cook them properly (and not into tasteless mush!) I found I enjoyed them. In fact, I found I enjoyed veggies enough that I actually became a vegetarian about seven years ago. Haven't looked back, either.

Not saying you'll go vegetarian, but speaking of myself, I just think it's funny that someone who actually detested veggies with a passion eventually became vegetarian. ;)

Good luck, John. You'll do great, and your body will definitely show its appreciation.

Cooking classes, John! Good place to meet women and learn how to cook delicious recipes! Seventh Day Adventist Churches (vegetarians, healthy food, etc) sometimes offer cooking classes just in case you want to learn meals you'd like to show us you made??? My Mom taught all my brothers how to cook - some of them are much better cooks than their wives. I'm just so happy for you, I can't help getting excited for you and all the new possibilities these new healthy choices you are making will bring to your life!!!!

As far as helping you find a gal who will cook for you - well, I'm one of those Gloria Steinam gals. Right after Woodstock - Feminism. But - there's always trading nights to cook, too! Giggle!  Most of the women I know are married with husbands who can cook or single and looking for a man who'll cook with them or for them.  But!  There's got to be one out there somewhere who'll cook for you?  confuse

Loved your second post. Made me laugh! It looked to me as if you were soaking up all the love that has come to you through the fingers of each poster! That helps bring forth joy in me! Thanks for my morning touch of joy! Hope your Wednesday is happy, too!

As a postscript:  I taught my husband and my son how to cook, too.  Brings back memories of the first meal my husband made for me.  Kraft Macaroni and Cheese floating in milk.  He was so proud.  I ate what I could.  He got better.  My son's first meal for me was partially cooked eggs floating in milk sloshed on the tray he brought upstairs to me one Mother's Day morning.  His little face so proud, too.  I ate what I could.  Both of them knew I loved milk.  Helped me love them even more - even though I like a little less milk in my macaroni and half-cooked eggs.biggrin  Might be a gal out there who'll love you just for trying to cook her your best made noodle/hamburger/ragu dish?  Considering what you've said about your animals and your poor cooking skills - well....maybe they could be sequestered in another room while you serve your lady your best dish?  hmm

OMG,   ((((((((((JOHN))))))))))

Bettina has good suggestions here....and I am into good health

a good one a day vitamin, (pref. organic at GNC has good brand)

good protein, carbs and yea, sugar needs to be cut down....drinking clean water will flush out toxins and is good for organ function

Lots of green veggies,  fruits in a natural (no sugar added) fruit juice for smoothies.....I use organic soy silk vanilla and beat up a banana and what other fruits I can think of, w/some protein power if I don't use my naturaide total soy meal replacement for my " nite meal"

as to breakfast??? a nice whole grain bowl of cereal in milk or soy  milk, your choice....an egg and toast would be nice w/it

lunch  lean meat...2 green veggies and 1 starch (potato or rice pinto beans)

supper would be similiar b/c you are trying to build you up....your glucose

your glucose levels will go down if you cut out refined sugars and rely on the natural sugars in fruits, and if you GOT to have a bit of sweet stuff,  use unsulphered molasses or honey.....

stay away from "white" products, like white flour, white sugar white bread b/c they have the "junk" carbs in them and go straight to you blood sugar levels

they are "simple" carbs and spike your glucose levels..

complex carbs are better....brown rice, sweet potatoes, pinto beans, whole grain cereals.....

WOW...thats enough info overload for you

PLEASE listen to doctor and please help yourself.....U give so much to this universe, you deserve to feel good....U CAN do this....if major organs are not compromised , you CAN reverse this in time....When I get up on am, I drink 8oz bottle water to "wake up and refresh my organs"......then I eat healthy, clean, non processed foods

stay away from the processed crap...try and eat clean, simple, foods that are more in a "natural" state

TAKE CARE............SENDING PRAYERS  and ANGELS to look after you

Keep us posted ok????

Hi John,

Every now and then I stop by to check in on the folks here and I'm sorry to read that you've been having some health problems.

I will pray for your continued willingness to take care of yourself so that you may continue on HP's path for you.

It's times like these that I'm stunned how miraculous the human body truly is - the wrong balance of nutrients and things start breaking down. It's incredible isn't it?

Keep eating the good stuff John!

Take care, Rocky
