Using my program. Serenity prayer was needed

Hi Everyone, my name is slogan_jim and I am a grateful member of al-anon.

In my spare time I play rec co-ed Ball Hockey and tonight we saw a prime example of a bully doing his thing. I wear glasses and can't wear contact lenses because I have a scar in my eye that doesn't allow it. During the game tonight, one player on the opposing team used the tactic of trying to get under my skin by resorting to name calling and belittling insults toward the fact I wear glasses. Some examples included 'Look out here comes Bill Nye!' and 'Is Dilbert your father?!' being yelled across the gym floor whenever I had the ball.

On one instance as I was lined up on D near the opposing bench this loser asked 'Bill Nye, aren't you worried about your glasses?'. I smiled, left a bit of a silence and quietly proclaimed 'I'm a little more worried about your mom.' To which their entire bench erupted and he was pretty quiet after that. Needless to say I was on the ball. No pun intended.

Even as this guy continued to chirp and all I wanted to do was run over there and tomahawk his face with my stick, I did not do that. I smiled. I knew what his intent was and I tried not to take it personally. All I could think of was 'HP will take care of him. Somehow, HP won't let him get away with this.' and I left it.

I know it's not really related to my father's drinking, but I thought maybe you'd get a good laugh :) It made my day.

Jim.

Fear of powerlessness sometimes wears a very ugly face, speaks very ugly words or seeks a very strange way to make connections. Good you have practice with facing yours in practicing the 1st Step. Otherwise, you probably would have *("tomahawked his face" with your stick.) Good work, Jim, led you to deal with an old experience with new tools. Perhaps this guy needs Alanon, too?

*Loved this phrase.  Conjured up funny pictures for me.  The kind one might see in Mel Brooks' movies.

Thank you for your share. There was and still is bullying behavior from my qualifiers. I like how you handled it with humor.

LOL!! You rock Jim that was classic! There is absolutely no weaker person than a bully .. standing up to them usually shuts them down, so good for you!! Hope you had a great game and enjoyed your evening!!

Hugs P :)

Wow what a picture Jim...and this is the place for such because for me these are "practice, practice, practice" events.  You remind me of an event I had this morning which I'm gonna have to ammend because of inappropriate sarcasm.  I had alternatives on how I could handle it and knew I had alternatives and then resorted to "one upping" the perp.  Hmmmmm  I reacted again and need to do more practice with "Don't react".  Good post...thanks for the header.  ((((hugs)))) smile
