What does this term mean?

I heard a woman in an Alanon meeting say this:

"I saw I was powerless over my dependencies."

What does this mean?

I would think she was referring to codpendent issues. At least that's how I'm taking it. Being addicted to the addict, comes to mind.

Hugs P :)

I for (only) one want to respond with a question...how do you see the alcoholic's addiction(s)?   Dependencies for me are my addictions without judgement as to whether they are right or wrong; good or bad.   (((hug))) smile

I'm guessing it means something like being powerless over the fact that I'm dependent on others to some extent in this world, and that's just a fact, jack :P

Just thought I'd get others' experience on it.

I love Pushka's Maya Angelou quote, BTW. That sort of fits the thread!

...and many of us don't like to be dependent (or controlled) by others because of our childhoods/still toxic family members.
And yet at the same time if we're not careful we can be exactly the same.
