hi all, this horrid disease is killing my precious 37 year old son. his weight is down to about 100 pounds. his hands shake soon after waking up. and his body requires alcohol or he will have seizures. he has pancreatitis. he has come to the conclusion that he is just "rotting" in his home. and he refuses to stop drinking.
i KNOW that it is his life to live the way he chooses. but what is really breaking my heart is that i am losing hope that he will see recovery. someone on the board once told me, "as long as they are breathing, there is hope" i just don't know anymore.
i will try to do something good for ME today. i will try not to think about my sons alcoholism but rather the funny, smart, beautiful person he is. i will open my bible and do some reading. i will try to do these things for me just for today.
Many, many Prayers for your precious son. This diesase is dreadful and I pray that HP's most generous, kind, powerful will be done for you and your family
I am glad you are taking positive steps for yourself
I can't imagine how painful this all is for you and for your son. My heart goes out to you both. Are you eating, resting, walking at least a little? I know that none of it will change things for your son, but it may help you cope with things a little better if you're not already remembering to do the basics. If you are, then please know that my prayers have been added to the others for you and for your son. If you're losing hope, we can hope for you that your son's HP will intervene in ways that are as yet unknown to us all and give you what you need to be there in peace and love with your son.
((((Debbie)))) look in your library of literature and see if you have "As we Understood". It's a member share little book which came out of the Al-Anon Anniversay Convention a few years back. At times when I need to hear the encouraging spirits of our worldwide fellowship I pick this little blue book up and just read. It isn't a daily reader and then it is. You get what I mean. Often times the AA fellowship will make face to face "wet" 12 step calls. Try their central office and ask them as a fellow member of the program. (((((hugs)))))
For every story of death and failure (and I know far too many of those ones), I have also witnessed the miracle of recovery in many people, who I would have never believed had any chance at all...
I hope and pray your son finds whatever he needs to, within himself, to make a positive choice of recovery for him....
I'm glad that you are making the choices you are, for you and YOUR recovery. Doing something meaningful and positive for you is an excellent idea!!
Take care
Tom

I'm so sorry. This is every mothers worst nightmare.you sound healthy and it's so important because you have a life to live and enjoy. You are powerless over him. I hope he reaches his bottom soon. Thanks for sharing.x
