Dry-Drunk vs Wet-Drunk

I'm venting about my cousin, whom I'm good friends with, so please excuse me.

I don't know which is worse at this point, the dry-drunk or the wet drunk. Both are so freaking selfish and frustrating.

The wet-drunk makes terrible decisions, doesn't do the things in life that need to be done (work, pay bills, etc), and does EVERYTHING on THEIR terms. The only good thing about a wet-drunk is he goes and does his thing, and I don't have to deal with him. If he calls and is slurring, I end the call. I won't do anything for him if he has been drinking, and he knows it, so he won't call.

The dry-drunk finally has a clear head, but blames EVERYONE ELSE for the situation that he's in (DUI and no driver's license, going through a divorce, not being able to see the kids with supervision, lost his job). They still have to have EVERYTHING done on their terms, with no consideration of anyone else. He never had to deal with real-life experiences because he would drink them away. Now, those real-life experiences (so very petty to me) are a major crisis. This is someone that lost a six-figure a year job, but can't go to the clerk of courts office without someone going with him, and can't believe that I can't take him at 12 instead of first thing in the morning because I work for myself.

OK. I'm done, and going back to being happy. Thanks for allowing me to vent.

I don't know, Jerry- I'd rate it a "good plus"- NCSUgeology is able to distinguish wet vs dry- something that I'm not able to do.

Thanks for your post NCSUgeology

Personally I've given up the differentiation between "dry" vs "wet". A drunk is a drunk. Dry just means it will be wet again soon, because the Denial Rationalization and Yelling (see what I did there?) is still there, and those are the main tools to justify drinking. Until the Denial Rationalization and Yelling are given up, they are an active drunk.
