Cleaning and a new hobby

Hi all

Over the last 4 years I have spent most of my time and energy helping and in fear and worry for my son.  Now that I've stepped back and practice the tools of Al-anon I'm feeling more like myself again.

This week has been a little tough in the fact my son is drinking again and I started my worry again.  I said NO I'm not going there so picked up my meetings and decided I needed to get off my butt and do something.

I went to the hobby store and bought all the goodies to start making candles ( inspired by  Path to Serenity ).  This weekend will be my first attempt :)

I also decided to so some major house cleaning.....well that didn't go so well cleaning those high beams, walls, carpets and windows so I'm calling in a cleaning crew to get my house in shape.  This will make me feel good having a clean home.

This afternoon I'm getting on the quad and going to drag the property because the weeds are getting crazy.

Don't really know why I'm telling this to everyone but I do know I would not have done this 6 months ago.  Every day I'm getting healthier and happy with me and feeling better one day at a time.

Thank you MIP for all your support  ((( hugs )))

Cathy, so are you going to make pillars or container candles? I make both and am totally in my own little world when making them. The fragrances fill the entire house and sometimes even drifts outside so when I'm making anything like ''hippie scents'' I chuckle to myself cause my neighbors must think I've got some sort of meth lab going on in here but to soothe their curious minds, I gift them a candle now & then .. hehe

We (most of us) spend far too much time worrying about what our qualifiers are up to, the "ifs & ands" and should devote a little more time to ourselves in doing something that brings us pleasure whether it be candlemaking, soap making, gardening, hiking, etc.

Now house cleaning is not a pleasing activity for me so I avoid it like the plague...lol

oh wow, candle making, that sounds fun! And to think all this time we could have been doing something like that??? JUST KIDDING. We have to hit the bottom and crawl back up, but at least we can crawl up with alanon tools to make it a little easier...peace and love Cathyinaz.

Yay Cathy! Enjoy your candle making. Many years ago I made home made soaps, which was so much fun. Your house will smell lovely. :)

So happy for you!!! Sounds like you are certainly on the path to recovery!  Love the Candle making as a hobby. It's amazing when we let the program work, what ideas and unknown energy comes forth b

Have fun!!

Cathy, I do appreciate your updates on your journey to focus on yourself rather than worrying about your son. It's one thing to say it and know it needs to be done, but quite another huge step (in my opinion) to actually physically make the change. Well done. You are an inspiration to me.

Thanks for the hobby suggestion. I hope I love it in the end. After that I will try the soap making....saw it when I was purchasing the stuff for the candles.
