The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
This morning I got a phone call early in the morning.
I don't like these as usually it means trouble.
It was my husband. He said that he was at his new job a half hour early and thought he would call me.
He has not worked in 3 years 11 months!
My opinion? He was an alcoholic of the kind that would die from the drinking, a hopeless case.
I never thought he would be sober for 8 continuos hours much less actually work again.
I had enabled my alcoholic until he was yellow, his eyes were yellow, his whole body was swollen and he could not walk. Surely he would have been dead very soon.
Thank GOD I found alanon and learned not to enable.
I propped my husband up until he almost died in my arms.
Today, because I left him in May, he has to SOBER UP and WORK FOR A LIVING.
Imagine that.
He has even called me on the phone to complain that I am to blame for making him go back out and work.
I celebrated New Years with my family of choice, the alanon people in these rooms.
New Year, New Ideas, New Thinking, New life.
What a gift to have the alanon program in my life.
This morning I got an email from my sister in Texas, she is coming to visit me in a few weeks, I sent her a ticket.
She had dinner last night with my brother and his family who were in from Amsterdam to visit.
She said that my brothers best Christmas gift was to have me back in his life.
Tears on the keyboard again....

If you want things you never had you need to do things you have never done
Hope that the alcoholic can turn around. Whether or not we are there to witness it. And also hope that we can find ourselves again, that we can find those things that make us happy and take care of ourselves once again.
Tears welled in my eyes, just reading it. Power to you for experiencing it, and exponential power for sharing it !

Megan so much hope in that post and reconciliation for your family all because you chose to change your life. Truly shows us that if we focus on ourselves and not the A there will be movement in our lives. Hugs Leo xx
What an amazing and powerful example of how focusing on our own recovery and putting ourselves first, can have residual benefits for the people in our lives.
How wonderful, he is perhaps starting to get his life back!!
