Getting medical help

I believe my husband is in the end stages of his alcoholism.  He's worked 2 weeks in the last 15 months and lost his job because they thought he had a seizure and sent him home.  He has no recall of that.  They required him to go to a neurologist (who told him to stop drinking) and to inpatient rehab, where he lasted 4 hours.  That was 9 months ago and he now drinks a fifth of vodka every other day, can't get up to feed himself, urinates pretty much anywhere, vomits every day, hasn't left the house in weeks.  He has a friend who brings him alcohol and cigarettes and he is even scared at the condition my husband is in.  Oh and did mention the falling?  Bruised and scraped everywhere, knocked the bathroom sink away from the cabinet, put a hole in the bedroom wall from falling into the door, broke the dog kennel by falling into it - all in the last 2 months.  Caught him crawling to the living room the other night to smoke.

I have been doing my best to detach myself from his drama but now I think he has some major physical problems that need urgent treatment.  He even admits he's physically ill (apart from the alcoholism, which he will never admit) but he's scared to go in for fear of what they will tell him.

How can I get him to the hospital?  I'm not even that concerned about alcoholism treatment - I'm afraid he's going to die in that bed but he is adamant that he's not going anywhere.  His "supplier" is afraid he will die if the liquor stops coming (and he's probably right), so I just keep living the same day over and over again...

Advice?

Welcome Terry.....so glad your here.

I'm so sorry that your going thru this. In my experience with my son. He at one time was drinking a 5th everyday and was in such bad shape when I found him I got him up, but him the car and took him to the ER. He didn't even know what was going on for the first two days. They couldn't even take him to a detox center because he was so bad. Spent 4 days in ICU then was able to transfer him to a center for more help. 12 days later he was at least functioning again and didn't die. I'm sure if I didn't go over there he would have been dead.

I pray you find a way to help him at this point. Later you can think about what is next to do for you and his best interests.

Take care

Dear Terry

Welcome to Miracles in Progress  I am so very sorry that this terrible disease has progressed so far.  I have experienced a very similar situation and it is dreadful.    Because I felt as you do that his physical condition was too serious not to be attended to  I called 911 and they agreed.   He was admitted to the hosptial  When in doubt all the police .  Others times when the ambulance arrived he refused to go and they went back to the hospital without him. This time the police insisted he go.

In addition to taking care oh him I suggest that you check out alanon meetings in your community and attend  You need the support, tools and understanding that this program can give.  The number is listed in the white pages

Keep coming back here as well.  You are not alone.

In my prayers
