The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
Hi again David Glad you found it. I do support alanon's requirement for CAL as It keeps the program and the message clear, without outside influence as the tradition suggests.
I do not have the piece of literature that has the slogan regarding creating a crisis. I believe it is the Booklet: Alcoholism the Family disease. It may also be in the Merry Go Round named denial and "So you Love an Alcoholic"
I know I did not quote it completely , Nor do I have it exactly It says something to the effect : Do not create a crisis nor do anything to avert a crisis if ,it is in the natural order of events
Glad you are sharing here.

ACA has its own promises, and these prove that Alanon has a fine set as well!
Alanon is fairly touchy about the use of CAL literature. I stick to that rule to the best of my ability.
Our original group was made up of mainly families of construction workers. One saying I often heard was 'never trouble trouble until trouble troubles you'.
With reference to the phrase Nancy is talking about- "Do not create a crisis or take actions to prevent a crisis" I must have picked it up from some recovery literature somewhere. But i think it says the same thing as the above. One of the regular posters on the forum has another version as her signature.
I am sure Alanon is forever reviewing and revising its slogans and CAL.
Some we shall have for ever, of course.
Sometimes, I think it is down to Tradition 4. I recall there was a time when talk about codependency was considered taboo inside of Alanon. [For myself I do not encourage it.] But I found exactly the same idea expressed in our ending, except in different words.
I think the assemblies and conferences take account of issues of concern. I think is is a mistake to believe that online forums will change anything. [I still think that the cycle still belongs to 'the group' and to the individual members.]
Okay, this must look like rambling, talking about ourselves, initially, and then talking about group issues and concerns is a sure path to maturity.
Yes, Betty, I am sure it is in the Alanon literature. I read it there, and i know it.
'Progress, not perfection,' springs to mind. We do not have to get things exactly perfect all of the time.If people's intentions are clear no one has cause to complain. I have spent today reflecting on the crisis theme and realised that it is covered by the Serenity Prayer as well.
Even today- going through the daily readings my mind is sometimes surprised and delighted by the words and phrases. Our programme has been put together by those 'who have been there and done that'. It is practical, and it works.
