Need to work my program

Dear Friends After a very tumultuous week my AH is now in a detox/rehab facility. I had my first good night's sleep in forever last night, and today find myself overwhelmed with the reality that he is fighting for his life with this disease. I have been so angry and resentful recently, not working my program very successfully the last few days. Now I realize that I really need to keep myself healthy to get through the next phase. I want to focus on my HP, but I am finding it hard to quiet my monkey mind. I am not sure what else to write, except thanks for all the support.

I will pass along the encouragement that my wise old sponsor relayed to me, when my AW was in Rehab...

"Tom, she is finally in a safe place, surrounded by people who know what they are doing.... You can finally breathe, and take advantage of this peaceful time to do the work on YOU".

Now, I am a believer that this "work" would definitely involves some true 'recovery' work, per se (Al-Anon, readings, etc), but also (and equally important) is some work on the spiritual refresher side....  time to do some things "just for you" - whether that is a walk in the park, or a bubble bath, or whatever.... get back in touch with what you haven't been doing, when your focus was on him....  it's a process, but it is an awesome opportunity to turn your focus back onto YOU right now.

Take care

Tom

I can relate to that feeling. yes and I can say, take the opportunity to do yourself good, whatever that is. you will find it...it is normal our mind goes back to those intense things in the past...and I guess we are quite addicted ourselves to the behaviors of our A's.... be patient with yourself and be nice to you. I too struggled with that, until I realized how supportive and understanding and caring I had always been able to be with those around me...but I actually never gave this to myself. well now i learned to balance that ability more.
Let it start with you...it's not 'selfish', it's self-care!

Lots of hugs to you Paris! I hope you take time and show yourself some love! Try to do some things you love that you haven't had time to do before. Enjoy the sun and nature, you deserve it:)
