My Son

Dear Dee
Welcome to our Miracles in Progress Board

You are correct alanon was founded to help people who live or have lived with the problem of alcoholism and I have known many people who have attended because a loved one is addicted to drugs and have found help.

When a loved one is in addiction we must learn that we, the family and friends,  are completely powerless over the disease.   We did not cause it, cannot control it and cannot cure it .

Since we have lived with the disease we too have become infected and need our own program of recovery. This is how alanon helps. There are also Naranon meetings that are the for families of people with drug addictions however I do not know how many are held or if they are in every community.   You could check the white page for that.

Alanon meetings are available in most communities and the following link will give you much helpful information

Keep coming back.

 There is hope

My son has a drug problem. It has been going on for years and last week we had an intervention with him. He did admit he has a problem and he was willing to get help. He is now in a rehab center. I never thought I would have to go through any of this but I am sure we all thought that. I am asking for understand and help for myself so that I can understand what my son is going through. He has asked his wife and me to go to Al-Anon meetings to understand what he is going through. In reading about Al-anon meetings it is for people that have drinking problems, is this where we need to start.  I am told that both meetings are the same but with a different addiction. Please advise me where to start.

Thank you for getting back to me. This is all a learning experience and one that is very important to me.  It is so hard to know where to start.  I will look for meetings in my area and keep doing research on line.  I am also trying to be supportive and help my daughter in law throught this.  She lives on the other side of the state from me and she has my daughter who is also a hugh support to her.

I am sorry if I don't respond... I am not good with figuring out how to read what has been sent to me.
