Hi

I am struggling to find a sponsor at the moment, however I do have a group of people I work on the steps with so we sort of co sponsor each other.

I do not feel totally ready yet until I have completed the steps myself  to be a sponsor, but I can share my Experiences strength and hope with you of how I have worked the programme while trying to find a sponsor.

I go to meetings which you say you can not get to, convention etc.

Do you have any numbers of al anon members you can call?

Do you have any al anon literature this really helps you can purchase it on al anons website.

I came on here and read read read and posted posted posted.

you can also private message people on here if it is not something you want everyone to see.

You do not say if you have a higher power in your life. (I hope you have) try and talk to your Hp, you can do this anywhere.  You can ask for guidance and support.

Hopefully someone with a bit more experience can become your sponsor but you can private message me any time.

you are not alone , Good on you for reaching out for help and support.

hugs tracy xxxx

One way you get sponsors is to ask someone. Generally we do that privately.  In theory some groups have a list of people who are willing to sponsor and that is one way to get them. Another is to attend online meetings (they have them here twice a day) look at someone's shares and ask them if they have the time and comitment to work with you on a short term basis. Basically it is best to think about the job being short term because it might not work out for both of you.

For some of us (like me) we do not have a sponsor for ever.  I have had a few.  I really had no idea how to have a sponsor and felt tremendously needy and upset for a long time.  Now I have more than one resource to look to for help.    I also have an idea that my sponsor has their own issues to deal with which at times can be very pressing.

If you do find someone ask them what their availability is, how they work and what their expectations are.  Some people can take phone calls others cannot. Some people can do a lot of contact and others cannot.  I think it is best to try to be upfront with what you might need.

I really do think a sponsor can help.  Books can also help especially a book like Getting them Sober by Toby Rice Drew.

Good luck.

Maresie.
