Their father gets out of jail this month and I am wondering how to protect the kids from contact When it was just alcohol that was the addiction, I could tell when he was under the influence after one spoken word. Now that drugs are involved, I am unaware. I am concerned the drugs have done permanent brain damage and am concerned of his mental status and stability. If you could share helpful tips that have worked for you, I would appreciate it.
There are different protective orders you can obtain. I called a help line in my county and was directed to the right people to start the process for my 14 yo daughter against a boy that has stalked her. I am guessing most counties have these centers, I would check you white pages or online. Hopefully you can up your meetings during this stressful time. Sending you love and support!

You may need to get some legal help so you can properly fill out for a restraining order. It is not an easy process but sounds like you may need one. Due to the nature of the needs of a RO they are generally filed early morning and either accepted or rejected same day in the late afternoon.
Also try to find out if the system did mental/emotional testing anytime before and/or during his incarceration. If they did the information could be helpful. Good luck (((hugs)))
Check the phone book and/or the Internet for legal aid programs in your area--they will help you determine the best approach AND help you fill out the paperwork! :)
