per request - Dog Biscuit Recipe

I decided to buy the Cooking the Three Dog Bakery Way (by Mark Beckloff & Dan Dye) for my mom as she has gone down there & spent over $100 on dog cookies.  All of the food there, is "clean" so humans can eat it too  ~I never tried any of them~  but figured it would be neat to bake dog bones & present the book to my ever loving mother.  her schnauzers mean the world to her.  I saw this in the Reader's Digest.

Mongrel Munchers

1 c. all purpose flour   -  2 c. rolled quick whole oats   - 1/2 c. chopped unsalted peanuts

1 large ripe banana, mashed  - 1/4 c. applesauce  - 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Preheat oven to 350*.  Combine first 3 dry ingredients together.  In another bowl combine wet ingredients. Add dry ingredients to wet, stirring together, until dough forms.

Roll dough into walnut sized balls & flatten (shape) in hand or using spoon onto ungreased baking sheet.  Bake 15 minutes or until golden in rolling oven.  Cool on rack before serving.  Will store in air-tight container for a week & freeze up to 2 months, well wrapped.

I didn't have the banana & was too lazy to go buy one or even I thought of baby food bananas - I "created my own recipe" seeing this & one other from the cookbook, based on what I had here at my house (necessity is the mother of invention!) ~ K's Christmas Milk & Honey Doggie Bones ~ I'll let you know how they come out!!! ~  I hope they work!

Kitty,

Every Christmas I do dog cookies for my sister and friends. It started off several years ago with my best friend and I doing them for our sisters. We do a "dog cookie swap" instead of a traditional cookie exchange. I occasionally sell them and donate the money to a rescue where I got my cat. I'm starting with kitty cookies next. I box them up and decorate the boxes using scrap booking materials and paw stamps. It's a lot of fun.

Happy Baking and Merry Christmas. I need to get that book.

Live strong,
Karilynn

hi ((kitty))
While surfing around I came upon this site
Lots of dog treats

There's loads of recipes.
Also...on another site, this notice was in big letters:

Some of the Treats that contain baby food could include onion salt. This if taken in large amounts could make your pet sick and could cause death!

I can't imagine a dog eating large amounts, but thought it worth the heads up.

P.S. We are celebrating!!!!..Louie (new pup) RAN down by the door today and scratched, I let him out and he did his duty..#1 and #2...woooHOOOO!!

Here's a couple pics of the little terror..lol

Louie 1
Louie 2

love ya

Dear Kitty,

You Americans crack me up - this is the funniest post! (Sorry - hard to get my head round cooking for my mutt (nearly 13))- her fav food is our leftovers.

Here, in UK, all pet food has to be fit for human consumption. I hid my eyes when a local takeaway was prosecuted for putting into their recipes, long time ago, but memorable, omg, had I eaten cat food?

Now, we can buy these dog biscuits, and, I promise you, one of them looks like Oreos - without the white, creamy bit. Keep telling Jrtjosey she eating dog biscuits - but she loves them, and has beautiful, shiny hair! Rofl

Hope you, and the dogs, have a wonderful Christmas,

Lots of love,

Flora
xxxx

PS Apparently, the pet food manufacturers employ a taster (human) - remind myself, when job not going too well - there are plenty of worse jobs out there.

PPS - to Christie, Louie is a charmer!

Yeah Flora, that is pretty funny...  I guess it would have made more sense if I made it clear that I am a vegetarian, so "fit for human consumption" rules out quite a lot for me.

Cheers & Happy Christmas!
