Hi everyone,
I'm completely new to this and just wanted to try and let go of some of my recent issues, so here goes...I have been brought up in an alcoholic home, my dad is now a dry drunk and my mum is an adult child in recovery. I'm 28 and although there haven't been any specific problems for a long time I have had a really bad time the last few months with obsessions. I am happily married and have been living in the Middle East for a couple of years now. a few months ago I started to get depressed, then I started to obsess that I was going to be this way forever and I would never feel better, to the point that it was the only thought in my head, my thoughts were totally out of control! I spoke to my mum about it and she introduced me to al anon:) i didnt realise until then just how badly i have been affected and lots of personal issues have started to surface. the steps and all the books have really helped me but I feel I have to speak to people about it, my current living situation means that I can't attend face to face meetings:( so I was thinking this might be the next best thing!
Thanks for your time:)
I am so glad that you found us and that your mom suggested alanon It is certainly here that I learned how to let go of all the destructive tools I developed living with this disease. I am sorry you are unable to attend face to face meetings however we do have on-line meetings here every day in our chat room. Here is the schedule:
9 AM EST Mon-Fri 9 PM EST Mon-Sat 10 AM EST Sat & Sun 7 PM EST Sunday (Open for General Chat between meetings) To join us, use the link on our Al-Anon page
Thank you hotrod:)
I feel as though I really shouldn't have any problems at the moment, my life is really good and I don't know why this has started now! I suppose I must be learning something but at the moment I'm not sure what! For about the last month or so I've been applying the steps and slogans in my life and slowly but surely it felt as though the obsession was starting to lift from my thoughts, but I've had a bad week:(and from reading the literature I know it's better to share if I can! Thank god for this program as without it I think I would have been committed!
Thanks again
Brandi You are not alone I was so happy when I found out that I was affected by the disease of alcoholism and that there was a program that could help me to lift the negative attitudes I had taken in to protect myself.
You are correct the Literature, Steps, Slogans, ar the keys to replacing the anger, obsession, self pity and fear. As you have discovered Sharing with another is also very important.
Keep coming back, Living one day at atime, focused on taking care of your emotional needs with a trust in a Higher Power. It works when we work it.
I am glad you found us and don't feel strange growing up with A's just does things to us. Al-anon, the literature, MIP and my sponsor have helped me move through so much. I am sending you love and support!
